Re: Lag on franchise's mode menus (OG Xbox one & PS4)

Hey, @A55p2

Appreciate the honest feedback and we'll share thoughts we're seeing here on the forums from community.

Question for you though. I had an OG Xbox One until I got rid of it not too long ago. When I played NHL 21 on it then moved to the Xbox One Series X I noticed a big difference in menu speed navigation. There will obviously be some noticable difference in speed due to hardware advancements on the Gen 5 consoles, but I am not sure if there could be a significant improvement in menu speed due to the specs of the OG Xbox One. NHL 22 runs on Frostbite and these newer games are pushing the older consoles to the limit now.

It's possible the menu navigation could run faster if you were to clear up space on your hard drive and power cycle the console. Deleting all of your saved clips on your device will help speed up navigation around the Xbox too, it may help with the game.

Hope this helps, thanks for letting us know about your experience.

How to power cycle your Xbox console:

  1. Turn off the Xbox One console by pressing the Xbox button  on the front of the console for about 10 seconds until it shuts down completely.
  2. Unplug the console’s power cable. Wait 10 seconds.

Important Be sure to wait 10 seconds. This step resets the power supply.

  1. Plug the console power cable back in.
  2. Press the Xbox button  on your console to turn on the Xbox One.

Clear Mac Address

  1. Clear the MAC Address: From the Xbox dashboard select Settings>All Settings>Network>Network Settings>Advanced Settings>Alternate MAC address>Clear, then restart your Xbox.

How to power cycle your PlayStation console

  1. Touch the power button on the front of the PS4/5 for at least 7 seconds (until the system beeps twice).
  2. Turn it back on after 5 minutes. Launch the game.

    Hello

This franchise has for long had slow menus with input lag, but in NHL 22 it's starting to be unplayable. Delayed commands in Franchise mode and others lead into choosing the wrong options, slowing down the management side of the gameplay significantly. If there's anything you guys at EA can do to reduce how demanding the menus are, please consider taking action.

These don't work. It's the game. This has been the case for a long time. Except now it's starting to be unacceptable levels of lag. Frostbite engine explanation does not cut it, because the game itself runs fine, it's just the menus that are "laggy". You cannot with a straight face say that you can't make menus run properly on PS4 and Xbox one.

I just really wish this could be forwarded to the Dev team, if they could somehow optimize the menu background for more FPS.

@Rambokalatus How are the bugs & issues in franchise mode in NHL 22 in comparison to NHL 21 after many of its issues went unresolved? I'm wondering because I have not bought the game after my experience with it last time.

Personally I see it in the franchise main menu just going over the tiles, it always registers more movement than intended. Also while pausing in games there is a big delay where the screen just freezes until the menu shows up. Editing lines is also a pain to do. So pretty much everywhere

Don't have that option on my current tv and even so its been an issue for the past couple titles wich i have used on a couple tvs. The game really seems to be the main issue

Thanks, just wanted to check to make sure it's not missed.

Would anyone be able to capture some footage of you navigating the menus where it's lagging?

I could do that, not sure why nobody has answered this yet lol. Where can I post the footage?

I'll mention right away that I'm playing on ps4 with an SSD swapped in it.

edit: I have to admit I only noticed now that this was posted for the Xbox one but I assume it would be the same since it's the same generation of console.

So I started off from the last time I played and just went through the off season because there's a lot of menus which is where the lag is, gameplay is perfectly fine but I attached a clip at the end using the pause menu during a game.

When I open up the draft interviews, you can hear the scrolling sound is uneven but I was tapping my d-pad at a constant speed.

I went through the re-sign phase and it was quick enough that it didn't cause any issues in performance.

**I did decide to add a bonus glitch that's been in the game for a couple years now. During free agency if I scroll down the list anywhere, decide to check the info of a player, then click R2 to check the next player, it brings me back to the top of the list and I'd have to scroll through to find that player down the list again.

Notice the click sound at 4:04, then the player info doesn't open for at least 2.5 seconds.

At 5:09 I tapped R1 to go to team management and that took about 3 seconds to load. The main menu is mostly fine, just overall kind of slow, but it's at its worst when you just get back to it from a different menu.

Opening propose trade and searching a team's players also are just kind of slow to open.

During the rest of the offseason, the pop up trades are fairly quick and the time it takes to simulate through the days is understandable.

Editing the lines is frustrating. There's such a delay when trying to quickly switch to a player you're trying to look at.

Loading the game from the main menu does take a bit of time.

During the game, pausing is very frustrating. I paused, went through menus, and at the end I simulated what it's like trying to exit a game fast. There's just some games where you can't win and just want to quit and that lag makes it all the more frustrating lol.

Thank you for adding the video, @Wobblaa

As the original Xbox One released in 2013 and games now are being developed for next-gen systems, while compatible with the Xbox One it's not going to perform at the rate as the newer generation consoles. I agree the menus are moving at a lesser desirable pace. Does it speed up at all if you clear up space on your hard drive, remove captures on your hard drive, and navigate at a slower pace? We'll share this feedback with the team, however to set proper expectations we are not aware of any upcoming performance improvements that will speed up the menus for those generation consoles.
