Re: The CPU does not take stick penalties offline.

Let me ask you all a question. When you're maxing out the sliders for penalties what expectations do you have for the rate of penalties? How many penalties do you expect the AI to cause each period or game?

  • @EA_BlueberryAt max the AI should be taking a penalty almost every attempt at taking away the puck (just a very high amount each period since maxing out a slider in older games usually resulted in unrealistic amounts of penalty's which works to balance it at a lower setting)

    At 50 I't should be around at least a minimum of 2 -4 a game depending on how well the player can draw a penalty (force the AI to take a riskier attempt at the puck) a players discipline stat (lower the stat the more careless they are at going for pucks) and their stick check rating (higher rating the smarter and more accurate they are at going for the puck) remember tho there should always be a chance to trip up the player (the same for tripping the AI) it's how well you or the AI is playing that greatly determines the penalty.

    Bumping. This is still an offline play killer post December patch.

    You get very, very few penalties regardless of sliders.

    In one isolated test period it seemed as if things behaved as expected, but after that nothing bar the occasional interference or hold call. Zero stick, boarding, charging, elbow calls in a thirty minute game with maxed sliders. Could never recreate that isolated success.

    The 20 and 21 behavior is in there, but some issue is clobbering the AI's desired tendencies 99 percent of the time in 22. Have tried numerous combinations, deleted saved data etc. No joy.

    No powerplays kills Season and Franchise mode in terms of actually wanting to play the games. File under "still broken".

    This isn't a subjective issue, there should absolutely be pens and it should be straightforward to debug the AI tree of the CPU players to find out exactly what their penalty tendency is at any instant and thus identify any indiscrepancy with the user's desired settings.

  • @Rigu7This has to be one of the top priorities for EA, penalties can be the biggest factor in a hockey game.

    Letting it stay this way for this long is cheating offline players and basically it's EA telling us "Fair play doesn't actually matter, why would it count as a game breaking bug that requires an immediate fix if the AI can play without consequence in comparison to the player." especially when it's extremely important game play elements like stealing pucks/ special teams. Intentional or not this is what's happening.

    @EA_Blueberry

    We’re maxing out the penalty sliders because we’re testing to see if there is any change in penalty frequency, which there is not, so obviously the sliders aren’t actually wired to anything.

    CPU opponent AI literally never gets penalties of any type, especially stick infractions. Zero. I’ve posted about this many times both in franchise and on the bug thread.

    Expectation is that at lower slider settings calls aren't made that often, and at max slider the calls would be frequent.

    My question is what did the devs expect the sliders to do when they coded them? They don’t do anything and the CPU never gets called for anything even if the infraction animations are triggered.

    I mean look at the images I posted. Stick is through my leg and between my skates. No penalty called and resulted in a take away from behind with the defender mounted on my back and then a breakaway goal against. It makes no sense.

    All we’re asking for is consistency. At the very least the mechanic to function properly.

    @jjbyrd04 Nicely summed up man.

    I cannot emphasize enough that this worked perfectly well in previous versions, it's just broken somehow in 22.

    The QA team need only max all penalty sliders except interference and holding and play a 7 minute period game on Pro to ensure they can bait the CPU easily into trips, hooks or high sticks but it simply does not happen. They don't get called because the associated anim is never cued.

    Bumping aggression does nothing.

    It is so frustrating that this easy to recreate issue is receiving scant acknowledgement or traction when it impacts every offline player. I'm on PS5 so cannot be certain the issue is present last gen.
