How can I register *very* old EA/Origin games (no CD-key)?

I own two very old EA Games :  Crusader: No Remorse and Crusader: No Regret.

These were release respectively 25 and 24 years ago.

In those times, packaging was quite basic:  the game on a CD-ROM, some instruction booklet (+the famous "epilepsy warning", for the veterans remembering that) and that's about it.

I found them back during my lockdown-and-spring cleaning, and I would really like to play them again.

Problem: my computer doesn't have a CD/DVD drive anymore, and, even if I get myself an external one, there are great chances that these CDs are damaged - I have noticed that the lifespan of a CD is around 20 years, they tend to get errors/bad sectors after that, even if treated carefully.

I thought of transferring the games to my Origin account so that they have a digital legacy.

First of all, do EA still own these games?  Well according to the webshop, they do:

https://www.origin.com/gbr/en-us/store/crusader/crusader-no-remorse

https://www.origin.com/gbr/en-us/store/crusader/crusader-no-regret

and they go for £4 (5€ ) each.

I search a bit those forums, thinking I am not alone in this case and indeed, I found the following topics on the matter:
https://answers.ea.com/t5/Other-Battlefield-Games/how-to-register-my-old-games/m-p/1313806/highlight/true#M3934
https://answers.ea.com/t5/EA-General-Questions/Adding-old-EA-games-to-Origin/m-p/4101198/highlight/true#M102568

Problem is that both Crusaders games do not even come with a CD-key so it's impossible to redeem them like these other games.

How can I "register" my old games to my account ?

I created a support case (#59082075), and the advisor told me that they couldn't register the games because these games, although they can indeed be purchased, are no longer supported.

Now if the games licenses had been abandoned, I could understand that.  But they are still present on the webshop, and moreover, for not that of a low price - I purchase cheaper less old games on Steam or GOG.

I have the license usage of those game which I acquired 24/25 years ago, and I would really like EA to find a way for me to play these games. I realize it must not be easy, especially considering there are no CD key.

I suggest this: you provide a certain "code" to be printed/showed on screen, and we take a picture of the whole box content in front of that printed/shown code, and then you activate the game digitally.  How does that sound?

Thanks for any insight on the matter,

    Thanks Darko,

As I said in my text, I already have done that, and the advisor told me it was not possible to add these games to my account "because they are not supported".

I fear that following your advise and contacting another advisor will lead to the exact same response.

Beside, the advisor advised me to post on these forums for further assistance/suggestion sharing.   If now the forums redirect me to another advisor, that'd be an unpleasant pingpong game.

So, the idea of my post is to suggest a way to allow customers to redeem a digital version of old games they have purchased in a boxed version.

Or to try and find if there is such a way ...

  • 1. Go to http://www.homeoftheunderdogs.net, download your game that is abandonware (EA takes money for those without any licence)...

    2. Go to https://www.dosbox.com and download DosBox (freeware that EA is using to launch old games)

    3. Run the game through the DosBox

--> You can find the tutorial in here (but its really easy to do so): https://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Basic_Setup_and_Installation_of_DosBox

--> You can find the compatibility list here (with rating, how good it works): https://www.dosbox.com/comp_list.php?letter=a

    4. Have fun with all old games for FREE!
