Sorry for my prior statement regarding a fix - evidently Origin crashed so badly that it would no longer run. Since it wasn't trying to run, it wasn't crashing. Irritating coincidence.
I just finished a rather discouraging chat with EA support. It seems that they take the stance that their Origin Client updates they force on us are flawless and if there is any trouble then it MUST be the users' (dozens? hundreds? thousands?) PC. I've got a laundry list of hoops to jump through before I follow up with them again.
Discouraging, disheartening, irritated is how I feel about Origin support right now. I've been using Steam for FAR longer than I have Origin and have had no trouble with Steam so far...

This started to me a few days ago too. It also started happening on my partners PC (a completely different system in another room in the house) about the same time, so there is obviously something broken with Origin/Windows.
