Origin not launching on Mac - ResetOrigin tool not working

When I try to launch Origin, it just opens with a blank screen. I have downloaded the ResetOrigin tool but it doesn't work. Firstly, when I download it, the file is not zipped. Secondly, when I open it, it tries to run for a few seconds, then I get a "AppleEvent timed out" message. I've used the link posted here and on other sites, I run into the same problem with all of them. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling origin, still didn't work. I've tried running first aid with the disk utility tool, but it still didn't help. I also tried to run origin in safe mode, still ran into the same problem. My software is up to date - I really don't no what else to do as nothing is fixing the issue.

PC Specs:

MacOS Catalina

2,5 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5

4 GB 1600 MHz DDR

Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB

I did read it @Jolise13 I just wanted to link you to the tool to be double sure.

A lot of the time people download the reset tool from various places so I always share it in a response to ensure you are using the correct one.

  • @EA_Darko I tried this one as well, followed the instructions - it then runs Origin but its still just a blank screen.
  • @EA_Darko Sorry Darko - I used the link you attached. Troubleshooter runs but I run into the same problem.

    @Jolise13

There is no troubleshooter to download.

Just to be clear. Are you running the Reset tool or the Diagnostic tool? There are two tools on that page. The Reset tool is the first one and you have to "Click More" to get the download link.

The Reset tool is a zip file.

The Diagnostic tool is a disk image (dmg).

Hey @Jolise13 this may be easier, just follow the steps below to reset Origin.

    Resetting Origin

If Origin won’t launch and keeps crashing on your Mac, try the Reset Origin tool for a quick and easy solution for a lot of crashing issues.

    Here’s how to do it:

    • Download the Reset Origin tool.
    • Open a Finder window and navigate to your Downloads folder.
    • Find ResetOrigin.zip and double-click it. Finder will expand the full file.
    • Double-click the ResetOrigin file in the expanded window. You'll get a dialog box:
    • Click the Reset Origin button. You’ll be asked to give approval with your Administrator password.

    1. Enter your password and click OK to start the reset.
    2. When the reset is done, you’ll get a confirmation message that your Origin preferences and cache files have been removed.
    3. Click OK to exit the tool.
    4. Download the latest version of Origin for Mac and install it.

@Bluebellflora I tried to run both separately. The Reset Tool tries to run, but crashes and I get a "AppleEvent timed out" error message. The Diagnostic Tool runs - opens origin but the blank screen remains -so it doesn't solve my problem. Hope that makes sense.
