Re: Origin saying my password is wrong

@gabbyyferreiraa  You need to input the password for the user account on your computer, as in, the one you enter when you turn it on.  Origin is asking the system for permission to install the helper tool, and the system is asking the admin (i.e. you) in turn.

  • @puzzlezaddict Sims 3 is doing the same thing. I was able to login to Origin with my password, but it won't log me into Sims 3. Says the username or password are wrong--the same ones I just used to login to Origin.

(Was having trouble logging in yesterday and changed the password. It didn't help. Neither login is working to get me into Sims 3 now.)

Thanks for the suggestion. I hope they have some other advice too. There's literally nothing wrong with my login; been using Sims 3 for a long time with no problem, till now.

@Player_nv7bpp5n  Try clearing the cache of the browser the Sims 3 launcher uses: Internet Explorer for Windows (even if you never use IE yourself), or Safari for macOS.

If that doesn't help, go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Downloads and delete the file labeled [your email].bin, clear the browser cache again, and try to sign in.

  • Thanks, I tried those. I found the 6-page thread on this topic too, and tried all of those solutions. I may have simply lost the game; it doesn't seem like EA really knows what's wrong, and I can't imagine it's a high priority with how long Sims 3 has been around.

Let's see what they say over there. And I'll be bummed if I've lost my games and my stuff. It has been fun.

@Player_nv7bpp5n  I never sign into the launcher or the Main Menu when I play Sims 3, and my game runs just fine.  I've certainly seen reports that people can't install store content without signing in, although that's not the case for me either.  But the point is, you can still play even if the launcher doesn't cooperate.

It's also possible that the EA server is having issues at the moment, and that you'll be able to sign in again once that clears up.

  • I'm not clear. How do you get into your game? When I downloaded it I stuck a shortcut on my desktop, and that always takes me through the launcher. Tried using the .exe but that took me to the launcher too. I have to sign in either there, or once I get past the launcher to the next welcome screen.

I understood that if you don't sign in, your progress/purchased stuff/game isn't saved, or something. Do I not need to sign in at all? If not, how is my game secured for only me to play?

So many questions. Thanks for your responses.

@Player_nv7bpp5n  When I open the launcher, I just press Play, and then I choose my save and load it from the Main Menu without signing in there either.  All my content shows up, every time.  Again, I've heard from enough players that this doesn't work for them, but usually the only issue is that their store content doesn't work, and that can usually be fixed.  It's still worth trying: load a new save without signing in at all, and see whether your store stuff loads too.

I'm not sure what you're asking about your game being secured, but Origin validates your ownership, not the launcher or Main Menu.  Saves are stored locally, store content is installed locally, and any DRM gets the validation it needs before the launcher ever opens.

  • That all makes sense. Good to know. Thanks. Why does it want us to login at all if it has no effect on the game? -- buying content, probably.

@Player_nv7bpp5n  There are a couple sort-of-multiplayer features—sending in-game gifts to friends and using SimPort—that only work with a connection.  Badge tracking only works while online as well, even though it's supposed to save your progress while you're offline and sync when you sign in again.  (This definitely hasn't happened for me.)  And you need to sign into the launcher to upload content to the exchange.

    But mostly this.

  • Well thanks. Helpful information. I don't really need any of that stuff, at least not at this point.
