@Bluebellflora i use Macbook also to run Origin and to play The Sims 4. I am also having issues with Origin stuck on Verifying Game Files. It has been saying 0 hours 0 minutes and 0 seconds for 4 days now. I have uninstalled Origin, re installed it, cleared cache files, restarted my computer, everything i have seen many times. I tried to do the reset Origin tool you recommended but that also didn’t work. What else should I do to fix this? I just want to be able to play the game again and don’t know what to do.

Where is Origin installed?
Where is the game installed?
Please provide the exact file path. Origin is installed on my MacBook under downloads. The Sims 4 is downloaded on Origin but it is in my Electronic Arts file. I don’t think the issue is with The Sims 4 but rather with Origin.

Origin should be in Applications, not Downloads.
The Sims 4 should also be in an Applications folder, not in an Electronic Arts “file”. @Bluebellflora Yes, Origin is also in my applications folder but i also have a file that is in my downloads that says it is Origin. I’m not with my computer right now but i can get a picture of what it looks like and show you. As far as The Sims 4, the only way I can access it is through Origin. I do not have an icon in application or anything. I only have my save files and tray files in downloads under “Electronic Arts”.
The game should be installed on your Mac somewhere, it isn’t stored within Origin. The Origin in your Downloads folder will be just that, the .dmg download. When you launch Origin it loads the app from your Applications folder.
Please open Terminal and copy and paste the following search command then hit Enter/Return:
find / -type d -name "*The Sims 4*" 2>/dev/null
After a little while it will return the results of the search. Please copy and paste the results in a post here.
The Electronic Arts folder that contains your saves etc. should be in your Documents folder. It’s useless in the Downloads folder and is never created there by the game. Do you use your Downloads folder as a repository for all your data?
- @Bluebellflora Okay I will do that and post the results. And I apologize it is in the Documents folder. I don’t know why I said Downloads… but thank you for bringing that up
@Bluebellflora this is what the results are

Thanks. And please don't necro old threads, I've moved your other post into this one. No need to spam the forums because you want to get back into your game.
Your game is installed directly into your user account, rather than into your Applications folder which is the default location. You or someone with access to your Mac, would have either moved it there manually or set the install location in Origin to that location. Open Origin then click File > Preferences in the menu bar then choose Installs & Saves. What is the Games Library install location? @Bluebellflora I apologize, when I was trying to research this topic it sent me here and I had thought I started a new topic. But thank you for letting me know and moving it so it doesn’t spam the other threads. And thank you for taking the time to help me I really appreciate it.
As far as the Install & Save, I will attach a picture of what it says from Origin.

Great, thanks for the screenshot. As you can see Origin is looking in your Applications folder when you tell it to launch the game but you have the game directly in your user folder. You need to move the base game into your User/Applications folder AND the Sims 4 Packs folder.
Or
You can change the location of the games library location to your user folder so it would be Users/jennaxxxx/ @Bluebellflora I moved the Game library location to Users/jennaxxx I will attach a picture of what it looks like now.

Ok. Can you now launch the game? Might be an idea to quit Origin first then reload it. - @Bluebellflora I quit Origin and restart my computer and it went away at first then when I tried to launch the game, it still showed the Verifying Game Files.
- @jennathesimmer
Can you locate the game in your user folder and simply double click on it to open it? I always launch my game from Finder, not in Origin. Launching the game this way will automatically open Origin but can workaround the verifying files problem. - @Bluebellflora I usually did that too. The issue is now I can’t find The Sims 4 game anywhere. It used to be in my Applications. I didn’t even realize it wasn’t there until you brought it up earlier. It was there before all of this happened and I didn’t delete it or move it…
- @Bluebellflora thank you!!! i’m going to try that and see if it works!
@Bluebellflora So I was able to find the Sims 4 game in the user profile, but when I double-clicked on it this is what popped up.
- @jennathesimmer
Oh exciting, never seen that error before! Does it happen after restarting your Mac or was it a one time thing?
If you're having these constant issues I think the best thing would be to uninstall the game, via Origin if you can or manually if not by trashing the base game and Sims 4 Packs folder. Then resetting Origin and trashing it, then re-downloading Origin, installing it then downloading the game. You must make sure to accept and allow any permissions the app and OS ask for during the installation process. - @Bluebellflora it’s a reoccurring problem. So I will uninstall the game and the Sims 4 Packs folder. I’ll let you know! Thank you🙂
- @Bluebellflora I’m having some issues with the resetting Origin. I found the article that gives you each step and downloaded the reset file, but once I open the .zip file and then the ResetOrigin file itself, nothing works or pops up…
How it should work - After double clicking the .zip you should get a warning about opening a file downloaded from the internet but you can go ahead and ok that. Then double click on the unzipped file and it will start bouncing in the Dock as there will be a dialogue window asking for permission:
Click on Reset Origin and it will run the script. If you can't see the permission window click on the bouncing file in the Dock.
- @Bluebellflora Does it usually take a while to open up? When I click on the bouncing file in the Dock it never opens. Maybe i’m being impatient and need to wait longer?
- @jennathesimmer
No, it should be instant. Is it behind another window that you have open? If you are using a Trackpad do the 3-finger swipe up to show all open apps and you should see it. If it's not opening that is a different problem. Is your Mac user account an Administrator one or a Standard one?
