"The Origins store is currently disabled because it was ..."

I've been having an issue with Origins lately with any games I have purchased on Steam or received on the Epic Games Launcher giving me the error message, "The Origins store is currently disabled because it was launched from another application. Restart Origins to access the store." I am not really sure why I have been receiving this message and it worked about three-four months ago. Normally I wouldn't see this as an issue since I do not buy anything from the Origins store at all, but every time I launch a game, in this case: Dead Space 3, Titanfall 2, Mass Effect: Andromeda, and Star Wars Battlefront 2 it will disable the online portions of the game whether it be multiplayer or any in-game online service it has. I had already looked around for fixes but to no avail have I found anything that solved my issue.

I have also corresponded with the EA support team on multiple occasions getting bogus help, ridiculous solutions or them randomly checking my account details to see if I was banned; which in itself was pretty dumb. Or I was being suggested the same fix by different team members multiple times such as "clear the origins cache" or "check your internet connection."

Any ways, I have already poured through the forums here and tried a few things with no result: clearing the origins cache, running a clean boot, uninstalling and reinstalling the Origins client, updating drivers and I also gave my account details to the not so wonderful support team to check whether or not my account was banned(which it is not to my knowledge). Additionally, any game that is in my library on Origins and not running through a third-party software will work and not disable the store or any online portions of my game, which is bizarre; I tried this with Battlefield 4 but nothing else and the online works fine without any issue.

I'm not sure why this issue is occurring, and if anyone has any other fixes to suggest can you please list them here, that would make me very thankful. Thank you for taking your time to listen to my issue, and hopefully I can return to playing some fun games with my buddies.

  • In case anyone else has had issues with this same problem I had gotten it to work by just launching the shortcut for the game I would like to play on my desktop, I do not launch it through Origins but it can be open. It still brings up the error on Origins, but it seems to allow online play regardless. Hopefully this and the other solutions in the thread can work for those having the same issue as me.

  • @EA_Jason It is very interesting that you do bring this up as it is a good idea, however I had tried launching all three as administrator with no change. Concomitantly, the only account I have on my computer is an administrator account.

Yes though, this *only* happens with steam and epic games. Any other game that is exclusively on Origins works without any issue. My Origins launcher works without any problem as I can sign in and view the store(while I am not on any steam or epic games).

I appreciate the answer however, EA_Jason. Would you have any other methods for me to try?

Alright lets try something different then.

    • When you launch Origin on its own, do you get to see the same error message?
    • Have you tried reinstalling the game that you want to launch through Origin?
    • Does disabling the Origin overlay help?
    • I am assuming that you don't get to see this error message through the Origin website?
  • @EA_JasonLaunching Origins by itself does NOT get me this error message; the message only occurs when launching from another software such as steam. Concomitantly, any game that I have exclusively on the origins client works fine and does not give me any error message.

Its possible I already did though I do not remember, but I did verify files however I will try that once I am home and will update my message with the result.

Disabling or enabling the Origins overlay does NOT change anything. I still get the same message.

Lastly, you would be correct, I do not receive this message on the website.

Edit:  Reinstalling my game did not work.

Apologies @dingyaesthetics, things got a bit busy.

Could you also check if the Origin Background Services are running on Task Manager before you launch the game through Steam?

If not, then could you try testing first launching Origin and then your games through Steam. Another thing you can try is closing down all background services for Origin and the EA app and then only launching Steam and the game that you want to launch.

Should it not work then we have gone through nearly all troubleshooting and you can reach out to our support team to check if they can log into your account. That way we can check if it is related to something on the account or on the PC.
