Updating Origins - permission required (mac)
@Corrcorrcorr I'm sorry you're still having this issue. More people have been posting about it recently in the master thread, so maybe the latest update messed something up again. If you could run the script linked in the marked solution and upload it to the thread, it would be very much appreciated. The solution (marked for visibility—it's not considered solved) is the second post from the top on page 1:
Otherwise, you can keep an eye on that thread for any updates.
And to answer your other question, you can certainly put Origin in offline mode and prevent it from updating. But you'd still need to get past the helper tool issue the first time to access the option, or Origin won't install at all. I guess if you can get the manual uninstall to work at least once, then you can play offline until this is fixed. I know it's not a perfect solution, but maybe it's better than nothing.
