Hi,
Perhaps taxes are calculated differently on GOG and Steam - I currently can't speak for them. What I can say is that paying sales taxes is a legal requirement (depending on where you're from), so it's something we have to abide by as well.
If you've got further questions about it then I can chase that up for you though.

You are mistaken. Steam and GOG add taxes like everyone else in the world (barring a few expections).
For example here is my latest Steam (sale) purchase receipt (well, can't link to it, but a copy paste).
Ostopvm: 1. heinä 12.33XCOM 2 - 12,37€Sid Meier's Civilization VI - 26,99€Välisumma 102,37€ Alennus -70,62€ (-68%) Verot 7,61€ Yhteensä 39,36€ Verot = taxes

Still a valid question. I live in Oregon. No sales tax. Yet Origin is trying to charge me tax on a purchase. Bought it on ebay instead.
