So I recently bought spore off of steam, and I had troubles logging in to spore. After I contacted an EA rep and he helped fix my first problem. Right after that I tried to login and it said it couldn't connect to the servers. It said to check my internet but I was clearly connected to the internet. Any advice?

Still having the same issue. Just bought today.
Thing that worked for me was shortening my EA password to 16 characters. That appears to be the maximum size allowed when entering text at the in-game login prompt. Noticed it when trying for the elevtieth time to login, that it wasn't showing any characters being added even though I was still typing my password. Counted the ones it did show (16), went to EA Account webpage, shortened my password to 16 characters, tried again to login in-game with shortened password, and boom, success.
