Error code 1004 and 2000 when opening spore

Okay, so i downloaded spore from Steam and went to play it from there and everytime i go to open it an error comes up saying configuration script failed 2000 and then another error message after that saying could not find a needed package. The data directory is missing or corrupt 1004

what do I do?

this is for windows 8 as well.
