This is an older game, it is important that you run it in the window mode. It does not support the latest graphics cards and screen resolutions
Go to Origin in your library, click on the cover, you see a gearwheel (Settings).
Then go under Game Properties, then under Advanced launch options. In the command line, enter this command -w. Say ok
After the game is there, go under the options and set the final graphics, including window mode. Say ok and close the game
Then go to the Origin option and delete the -w. Start the game again.
I hope this will help

Having the same issue now in 2018. I've tried most suggestions with zero luck, but your suggestions about finding a SPORE preferences folder and such? I don't have any spore folders. Just the application. Help!

Hi,
So i managed to get Spore working thanks to your help. However, after double clicking 'cider_noui' to get it launched, it popped up coding which continuously develops until i close it - which closes the game.
Any help to stop this? Otherwise after playing for an hour it wouldve made thousands of lines of repeated code.
It's saying:
err:dsound:DSOUND_timer could not acquire mix lock
err:dsound:DSOUND_timer failed to get the lock for the buffer 0xa6e6af0
Thanks.

@Bealo2 Hi
I'm just wondering. This error message belongs to a windows error message!
This means that the dsound file is missing, it belongs to DirectX software

Hi,
No im using a 2016 Macbook Pro Sierra High. I managed to get Spore to produce a Spore Preferences folder after it wasnt automatically. Then changed the buffer as you said and double clicked on the cider_noui file which launched the game. Then put it into windowed mode using command + return and it plays!
Only issue is it produces this same error page after page while i play in a window behind the game.
Any thoughts to get rid of this? How am i running the game if that error code is for windows? Lol.
Thanks for your reply.

I would run the buffer in the original mode, without change, use the other cider exce. Before doing, clean the cache of your Mac
Command ⌘ + Shift + G
Typing ~/Library/CachesPlaying you the game over Origin or CD?
Delete everything all files in the folder

Hi,
Today, I downloaded Spore through Origin and since then it has been a hell. It keeps showing me the same error (image annexed).
I have tried every single option that you provided. Yet, I cannot even open the game. I am running it on mac as well.
Is there any solution for this situation?
Thanks for helping the community and sorry for bothering you with the same problem.
Cheers,

So, I tried the backbuffer one, disabling Origin in game and cleaning my ram. The other ones I was not able to do since Spore does not even open.
My model is:
MacBook Pro (2017)
macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)

Launch the game with the cider exce.
Go to the Spore icon with right-click> Show package contents> Contents> MacOS> select one of the cider exce
