SMB4 crashing on launch EA app PC

Metalhead logo with sound plays.

Cutscene plays with sound.

SMB4 logo appears and game crashes.

I have tried:

  • Allowing a Windows Firewall Exception.
  • Adding a "High Performance" entry in Nvidia Control Panel
  • Disabled Nvidia Overlay
  • Repairing in EA app.
  • Running EA as admin.
  • Running SMB4 as admin.
  • Running SMB4 in compatibility mode.
  • Repairing Microsoft Visual Redistributables in the games files
  • Repairing Microsoft Visual Redistributables through Windows.

  • Using the EA Cleanup tools in the game files
  • Re-installing.
  • Re-installing on a different drive/directory.
  • Running SFC /scannow to search for damaged files.
  • Soft reinstalling Windows with Media Creation Tool.
  • Reformatting my entire PC.

Windows 10 home 64 bit.  Ryzen 7 5800x.  RTX 4070.  32GB 3200mhz RAM.  1TB m.2 SSD

I have the same error every single time.  I found the error in event viewer.  My research says that the ucrtbase.dll is tied to the Microsoft Visual Redistros, which is why repairing those was part of my troubleshooting.

Here's the dump:

    Hey @stealthturkey

Just to confirm you've tried running the system file checker?

If so, can you try uninstalling and reinstalling the VC++ files needed for SMB4 in case there is a corruption issue?

If so, is there a separate drive we can use to install the game and to check if this continues? Also, do you play any other games via the EA app?

    Yes on drivers and updates.

Nothing else running with EA/SMB4.  No Nvidia replay, no other games/clients/overlays.  Nothing.  SMB4 folder has full control in security settings.

    Hi @stealthturkey

Apologies for the delay. after you reformatted windows did you grab the latest updates and drivers?

If so to check do you run anything else when trying to launch SMB4? If not, can you check you have full read/write access to the install location?

    Thanks!
