Spore Creature Creator won't open

I downloaded Spore Creature Creator off of Game Tree for Mac for about 10 dollars. While I know that Game Tree is not affiliated with EA, the issue is a technical one and it belongs here. Now, every time I try to open it on my computer to play, it crashes. Can I fix this? I don't want to have spent 10 dollars for no reason. I am running Mac 10.8.4, which the game is supposed to be compatible with. If the issue is that it's not compatible, then of course I will take my issue to Game Tree, for stating its compatibility with 10.8 and higher on its website.
