SPORE DOES NOT WORK ON STEAM!!

When I try to launch my new spore game that I had just bought with the recent steam sales. When I have both downloaded and double click either ( I have un-installed and installed both ). I get a script configuration error and than a black screen following a exclamation point with ," could not find needed package." and on the same message, "The data directory is missing or corrupt. [1004]". I am at a loss and would appreciate any help, if not fixable some sort of reimbursement? I am surprised that EA nor Steam is able to helpme, Iamquitedisappointedwiththis. I have also tried to run the app as a windows XP and to no surprise, not working with that or run as administrator. Windows 8
