Spore taking over six hours to download ?!

I am new to all this. Purchased Spore online, downloaded and installed the Origin client on my PC laptop (plenty of memory available, all system requirements met), and now Spore has been downloading for close to six and a half hours at this point.  It was chugging along very slooooowly but has now been "stuck" at 71% for the past hour. This doesn't seem right to me. It was also challenging to get the system to accept my registration and login to begin with, as well as difficult to find where to ask this question, so I'm getting pretty frustrated over here. Please help! Looking forward to solutions.
