Re: Running 40 or 50 FPS on RTX 20 series cards with still plenty of GPU power could

Product: GRID Legends

Summarize your bug Low GPU usage on Nvidia cards on the EA Desktop / Origin version of the game. Seems myself and several other Nvidia GPU users are only getting around 90% GPU usage, we are all running the game through either Origin or the EA Desktop app. I've noticed that the Steam version is not suffering the same issue and GPU usage is normal on that version. Can this please be looked into?
Please specify your platform model. Origin
Did you have cross-play enabled? Yes
In what game mode did the bug occur? Offline Story
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Reinstalled game, cleared cache, reinstalled Nvidia driver and checked for any pending Windows Updates.
What happens when the bug occurs? GPU runs at 87 to 91% usage regardless of settings used.
What do you expect to see? As my GPU is only a GTX 980 I would expect this game even on low settings to push my card to 100%

Low GPU usage on Nvidia cards when playing the EA Desktop / Origin version of the game.

I have the same thing too but with my RTX 2070 where it doesn’t take full utilization of the GPU I’m guessing this is a Nvidia issue or a codemasters issue for poor optimization for Nvidia drivers

  • I've just tried the Steam version of the game and saw the same issue.  So far I've seen this affecting 3070's, 3090's, my 980 and a handful of 1000 series cards.  On the other hand I've seen a 3060Ti and a 1050Ti running the game without issues also this doesn't seem to affect AMD cards.

I think it's the Denuvo DRM that causes all the frame drops. It's expensive for CPU and or GPU. I have same Issue with RTX 3070 and CPU 9900k.

It's an optimisation issue not a DRM issue, AMD cards are running the game just fine, but it seems a lot of Nvidia cards are having this low utilisation bug.

Best thing we can do is wait until Codemasters releases a performance optimisation patch or Nvidia to release a driver that addresses the issue.

  • Here's a shot from Bang4Bucks video where it shows a 6900XT fully utilising the GPU vs an RTX 3090 only using 91%, this results in the AMD card getting around 15 to 20fps more at 4K.

The second shot is from my own video showing my GTX 980 only getting 90% utilisation.

  • Okay now I've just all faith in everything, this is Grid (2019) showing the exact same problem.  So game is literally a copy/paste of the of the previous game, also this indicates a driver problem because Grid Autosport and F1 2021 don't have the same issue.  Definitely sucks because Legends is a much more complete game compared to the dumpster fire from 2019 :P

I had the same issue with the game ,so I started to play around with the settings and turns out that the problem was the crowds setting , after turning it off and restarting the game I don't have this issue anymore. Will keep an eye on the things (as of writing this May 15 2024)

Playing at ultra high preset with crowds off at 1440p

    PC specs:
    i5-100600KF
    RTX 3060 Ti
    32 GB RAM 2666 mhz

Edit 1: Had msi afterburner with rivertuner stats running in the background for any heating issues and starting playing GL and had low FPS , after closing the game and msi after burner , didn't have low fps anymore.
