TRACK Day Stage 3McLaren Artura

In this "Flashback" race stage the driver is expected to finish lap 1 in last place (6th) and then complete the race by winning (lap 2).  However, with an over halfway upgraded Artura I can't even get to 3rd place.  Is there anyone else having the same issue?  I feel like I'm pushing the car about as hard as I can with slight tire squeal and near drifting on corners, but overall I feel I'm driving pretty smoothly.  Just wondering if I'm the only one having difficulty with this specific race challenge.
