Ball physics issue when driving and putting

Product: EA SPORTS PGA TOUR
Platform:Steam-PC
Summarize your bug After the ball is struck, there are some physics issues that occur when it hits other objects/geometry.
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Tee off from a hole with any tree or foliage that just might graze the ball's flight path. See bug for conditions that occur when putting. Settings are: Putt read on, swing and putting difficulty normal.
What happens when the bug occurs? I forget which course and which hole had a tree branch extending over the tee boxes (may have been one of the holes at Bandon Dunes) but the game tends to register that the ball hit the branch even when the previewed flight path for the ball looks normal and even if you aim a foot off to the right or left. As for putting, when you putt and the ball just barely hits the edge of the cup at moderate speed, there is a tendency for the ball to then stop and be immediately teleported to a stop a foot away from the cup. This has also happened with pine straw but sometimes with more severe issues, where the ball will be randomly teleported several feet away from where you saw it land.
What do you expect to see? Either the flight path preview for the ball should show that the ball will hit the tree branch, or the collision box for the outer edge of the tree branch should be smaller and not interfere in this way. The ball should not be teleported when it collides with other objects and surfaces and behave in a predictable way visually.

  • I pressed the Mee too button but wanted to add a few details from my experiences. My putting issue is different so I will look for a post that more closely matches what I am experiencing. As far as driving with trees. The game does not understand the difference between hitting a tree with overwhelming foliage that is guaranteed to slow the ball flight and hitting a tiny branch with one leaf on it. In real life a ball can occasionally go through a tree unaffected. I have played golf in real life for the past 33 years, so I do know what I am talking about. I know there is a tee on the Bay Hill course I believe one of the Par 5's that has a tree overhanging the tee box. If you look at the branch that is hanging over the tee box it does not look like it should impede ball flight at all. However if you don't aim significantly away from that branch it will have a major impact on flight. In my experience my drives were reduced by 75 or more yards each time. The drives were also sent way off course as result of the tree impact. In each instance the projected flight path showed I would not impact the tree. My drives were straight. I saw nothing that would give me any reason to expect the flight would deviate from the projected path.
