Re: PGA Tour - Crashing on PC

Ever since the update that was released on PC yesterday (06 April, 2023) the game crashes every couple of holes. Game is unplayable in its current state.

  • Game crashes to desktop every time I start a single player stroke game. Usually after 3 or 4 holes. My PC specs are. Ryzen 5 3600, 32 gigs. of 3600 ram. GTX 1070 ti.  Game is on SSD Drive. System (windows 10) is on Disk drive. Other games work fine in this config. Game runs fine at 2560 x 1600, high settings. Until it just crashes. Every Time!

try using window mode instead of fullscreen, and also Disable Advanced Hair under options > Visuals (Its all the way at the bottom of the visual settings) see if that works. my game was crashing to desktop literally every hole since monday untill i read about this fix. and it has seemed to work for me, iv had 0 crashes since the change and have 15+ hrs now in game with zero crashes since changing to window mode and disabling the advanced hair. (and tbh, check ur ram usuage while playing in game, cuz if its maxing, iv heard your like 99% chance to crash if ur ram or gpu usage even remotely exceeds its limit. as in, make sure ur stuff isn't running maxxed out. or when it gets any "hic-cup" itll crash.

try playing in window mode. and also disable advanced hair under the visual settings (its all the way towards the bottum). It has fixed my issue and i was crashing 100% every hole since monday untill i made only those two changes. (Also iv heard because the game is poorly optimized, if your maxing out your PC playing the game, as in your ram or GPU is running near 100%, one hic-cup will make you crash.)

same issue for me as well but unfortunately this fix didn't work ☹️

  • @tr1bute17 It didn't work for me either. On Steam forums several people report since today's "update" they have the same issue. Runs for a few minutes then crashes to desktop.

Yeah I was fine yesterday but no dice today. No matter what I try and do. It's unlucky, all I wanted to do was play after the masters got suspended today

Hi @HanSoloCup96 Thanks for letting us know about your experience with PGA.

Would it be possible to get the following information and we can take a further look?

    Platform:

    PSN ID/Xbox GT:

    Region:

Are you getting an error message?

Date this issue started (is it still happening?)?

    Is anything else happening?

Please share any steps you've tried to far to resolve the issue:

If possible, share a Screenshot or Clip...

If on PC, please share a DxDiag

    Cheers!

  • Same thing is happening for me. The game played fine until this afternoon. Crashes every couple of holes now. Even crashed once in the menus. I set the FPS down to 30 as well. That seemed to make it last longer before it crashed. I think I might have gotten 3 holes in. And I have a fast processor and a 3060 vid card. They better get a patch out for this. I dropped a $126.00 for this game.

  • Hey Kapill89,

My computer was crashing as well. As I mentioned in a previous post, I dropped the FPS to 30 from 60, and it seemed to give me another hole or two before it crashed. I did however take your advice, and disabled the advanced hair. Left it at full screen though and make it almost through 18 holes before it crashed. So I then switched it to windowed mode, but still left the hair disabled and the frames at 30. Hasn't crashed again since, but I only played another 4 holes before I quit.  So we will see how this works this morning. Maybe this will be the fix. With the computer I have though, I shouldn't have to play with the settings, to get the friggin game to work. There seems to be a lot of issues with this game. Hopefully, they get some patches out soon to fix this stuff, as this game has so much potential, to be the best golf game ever, if they put the work into it.

Let me know if you are still able to play with the changes you have made.

    Thanks, Glenn

Constant crashing getting worse all the time. Crashing on loading screens, crashing mid-shot on my shot, crashing mid-shot on cpu players shot.

Tried several visual setting tweaks turning things down, I shouldn't have to given my system specs. Nothing has worked.

    My system specs:

    Windows 11 Home 64-bit

    12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900KS (24 CPUs),  ~3.4GHz

    32768MB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti VRAM 24327MB

    Display Mode: 3840 x 2160 (32 bit) (144Hz)

Have applied for a refund through Steam. My many years experience playing games on pc (and consoles) has told me that when this stuff is happening on launch don't go down the rabbit hole of checking your pc, your internet connection or the weather outside. If support ask you to post a photo of the length of the grass in your garden, don't do it. Constant crashing only on this game while all others work fine means there is no problem with your pc, you've been sold a product that is not working as it should be when you purchased it.

  • Hey bud, It will work if put on windowed mode and disabling the cool hair on your guy . Going to have to find a hat for him now. lol Have no crashing issues since those changes were made, but WTH wants to play on windowed mode. Things up close don't look too bad, but anything else in the background looks like hell. The two main reasons I went with this game rather then the 2K game, is the more realistic ball physics and the next gen graphics. I watched some 2K Golf footage on YouTube. Don't like the way the ball moves at all. The ball actually behaves like a real golf ball in the EA game. And the game looks much more visually appealing. Which is the reason I bought this game. I wanted to see these beautiful golf courses in all their glory. Not play in windowed mode.

Anyway, when I play again tomorrow, I'm going to put it back on full screen, but drop any video settings that are set on ultra to medium. Hopefully that works. Then maybe when they have patched this thing, I'll try to turn a few of them up. Med settings on full screen will still look pretty good seeing as the graphics are next gen. And It will look a heck of a lot better then on windowed mode.

I'll let everybody know how it goes.

Put the graphics settings on Ultra pre-set. Hasn't crashed since but challenges are not working now.
