@ELF014Im starting to play alot more 2k again... I think ea pga has alot of potential, and I'll keep playing the hell out of it.. but it has 2 frustrating issues for me with the cup and rough physics and rough lie penalties. They also can't even model the proper animation for flop and splash shots... I don't see this talked about much but ea did a terrible job there. In real life you change your stance and open the face of the club to play those shots... In this game the guy just hits a pitch shot and the ball magically flies high like a flop shot lol, very lazy and immersion breaking. Splash or blast shot (as they call it in this game) are equally poorly animated. 2k does a fine job replicating the animation for these shots as in real life... They just need to slow the swing down. Even full shots are about 10 to 20 percent to fast imo
I was pretty dedicated to this game because it addresses an issue in 2K that make it seem unrealistic to me. After they changed the swing speed starting in 2K21 it no longer felt like golf to me.
I felt the ball and cup physics were realistic feeling... I just no longer enjoyed the process of hitting shots. I could shoot low scores, but it was because I was able to adapt, not because the swing felt right.
The swing feels far to fast to emulate what it feels like to make a partial swing, a pitch shot or a chip. At least that's not how it feels when I make shots in real life. I fully agree the speed of the swing should be slowed down, maybe up to 25% of what it currently is. In fact I would like to see what the swing would look like if it started slower and was quicker as it approached the top of the swing.
I also agree with your statement about the animations.
I rather they do away with shot types... that instead the game allowed you to adjust your players stance. Allowing you to open and close your stance to promote draw and fade, the ability to move the ball forward or back in your stance to add a little loft or deloft the ball and trap it.
That depending whether you a right orcleft handed you could fully open your stance to hit a flop or splash shot.
And with each adjustment away from the base shot the timing would become more critical to execute a good shot. The timing could be disabled for AMATEUR levels and increased for each difficulty level.
They could use the shot arc to show beginning players the effect of each change in the players stance. This would open up a full palette of shots for playing the game.
I absolutely agree with your assessment of 2K... and if they addressed the swing speed in 2K I would be back playing it pretty much full time.
It is funny you are mentioning this at this time. My regular group just started playing 2K again this week and despite the poor swing speed. We had been exclusively playing EA since it released.
The consensus is that 2K is the far superior game as far as a true golfing experience is concerned. I fear we will only be playing EA on the rare occasion moving forward.
If it wasn't for the green speeds on 2K2019, that could have been the game of choice.
