I believe the first mouse swing was introduced in PGA Championship Golf 1999 and still have the game but not sure it would run on any current operating systems. I still have TW08 installed on my Win 7 PC and it has a decent mouse swing. The gold standard for mouse swings is the one in Perfect Golf, RTSM, real time swing mouse. Somebody here mentioned one of the usual complaints about mouse swings, so called edging. However RTSM has two parameters that determine the flight of the ball, First there is tempo, expressed as a ratio. Ideally the downswing should be 4 times faster than the backswing, a ratio of .25. Depending on how low or high the ratio is, it will promote a draw, pull, fade and slice. The second parameter is the movement of the mouse. If you have an inside/out movement it will promote a draw or a pull if it is too pronounced. An outside/in movement promotes a fade or slice. The mouse movement replicates the swing path of a real golf swing. You golfers out there know what I mean. These two parameter also offset each other so you can sometimes see the spin of the ball in flight as the two counteract each other. The fact that there are two parameters means you cannot use edging as a cheat.
The other feature that makes RTSM way better than any other mouse swing is that there is absolutely no feedback display after each swing. The feel or synchronization of the mouse movement to the movement of the avatar is so precise that when you hit a bad shot you may actually think you know what you did wrong. Just like real golf the key word is "may" When playing real golf, how many times have you told yourself to slow your swing down? Because it is a ratio the mouse swing can be a slower swing like Ernie Els or a faster swing like Nick Price. Again it replicates real golf. If your mouse path is way off you can toe or heel it resulting in mishits such has hitting a driver with only 170 yards carry.
There is a site that hosts tournaments for Perfect Golf but it is a testament of how difficult RTSM is that only about 1 or 2 percent of the players use RTSM compared to 3 click which to me is strictly arcade and boring. In addition there are only 1 or 2 players using RTSM at the highest difficulty level, Tour Pro. I play at Pro level which gives me a chance to break par. 3 click on the other hand is so easy that I have seen players shoot as low as -54 in a 4 round tournament and that is at the highest difficulty level for 3C.
If they had RTSM in EA PGA Tour there is no doubt I would use it instead of the controller stick swing which to me has absolutely zero feel. As far as I can see there is a comparison of the length of your backswing and the speed of your downswing but all that does is affect your power.
In regards to click swing, I stopped using that when PGA 1999 came out
