Rough Too Easy

I would argue this isn't even close to the best game to date on console. 2K in my opinion has much better ball and cup physics. Other than the ridiculous swing speeds in 2K... even the swing mechanics are better. In 2K you are rewarded for good shots and punished for poor ones. In EA too often you feel the outcome of your shots are not in your hands.

In 2K I pretty much know when the ball leaves the club where it is going. I can feel a slight push or poorly timed shot. I don't get this from EA.

Also... with a fully levelled player I am never in trouble with EA. A flop or pick shot will leave me next to the hole. I 2K in the rough above the hole with the green sloping away... I know I will not be able to stop the ball close.

EA shows some potential... but not in the current direction they are taking the game.

I have played 2k23, and have played all of the golf club offerings, but 2k23's ball physics are are pretty poor, the swing mechanic is unrealistic, but when you play the game for a long time you get to know how to use the controller to your best advantage. That does not mean that the swing mechanics are good, it means you have adapted to 2k's environment. I have hit a ball in 2k, only to see it take an instant 45 degree deviation after hitting a slope. There are a lot of plusses for 2k23, but the swing and ball control physics is not a plus.

I would respectfully disagree... between 2K and EA... 2K's ball and cup physics are miles ahead as far as realism. 

But I do agree with you about the ball hitting areas where there is a slope especially when the ball shape is in a different direction. But I have seen some pretty unrealistic bounces in EA as well. In that respect I don't think either game did a very good job.

The swing mechanics is fine, it adds a layer of difficulty to executing a good shot. I find with EA you are not always rewarded for a good shot. With 2K you are rewarded for a good shot and punished for a bad one. 

I feel they do need some adjustments in the 2K swing, if your timing is a little slow you will hit a high flare that ends up short right for a right-handed player. That isn't the case for being fast, I would rather see a shorter duck hook left... currently you don't lose any distance and are in my opinion still being rewarded for a badly timed shot.

The game seems to be bass ackwards in some aspects. Shots you should have a little fear for, landing in the rough or sand trap, are way to easy to get out of. Even when you get a little % drop in rough the hack shot allows you to hit the ball out as if it is no problem at all.Too often the ball is miraculously moved to a safer spot by some act of mod without any penalty or need to just get out of trouble (conversely shots landing close to water hazards but not in, force a penalty on you).

Shots you shouldn't have to wonder about, like perfect drives, approaches and/or short shots, can go any which way the game decides to send it and perfectly hit 6 foot putts go rolling over the hole for no other reason than the game decides it is time to screw you.

I have tried to be patient with the devs in hopes they will eventually fix these things instead of giving us crap like pro pass but I am running out of it. I fear the next patch will be as empty as the last few in fixing the problems that have plagued the game from the beginning. The phrase 'beauty is sometimes only skin deep' is appropriate for this game. Has potential but too much is just surface right now.

I can’t agree at all. The whole focus in 2k is if you can stop your backswing in that white section. Short game shots are a lottery. Putting is the same on every green. I’ve tried 2k22 &23. I just find it irritating. Nothing to do with course management or shot selection, just swing timing. Each to their own; I have friends that swear by 2k (I still play them online) but it’s just not a realistic representation of golf imo. And the courses and graphics are just not that great imo. Shame we can’t get somewhere in between.

I agree with your last point. With wedges, flop shots, spinners etc ( and no lie penalties) it is way too easy atm

I have to disagree... in 2K I play without the aiming reticule, swing meter, elevation different, lie, and percentage loss. The wind meter only shows the gauge and I get my yardages off the overhead map. The only thing showing on the screen is the scorecard, current hole info and wind meter.

Try playing without knowing the exact distance your club is set for. Where you just can't point at where you want the ball to go. And that if your timing is off you can push, pull, slice or hook a ball. Talking about feeling a bit of pressure over a shot with hazards in play to a tight pin location. 

So do you attack the pin, or use a little course management and play to the fat part of the green in a location that leaves you an uphill putt?

I agree the short game is a bit of a mess because they sped up the swing speed... but you can learn to adjust and execute shots. But I think this is a big problem in the game... not to mention the swing in the short game can be inconsistent.

The putting can be difficult but usually fair especially at the fastest settings on undulating greens. When I say fair it comes down to the designer on whether they let a flat spot around the hole or not. Some greens are not playable.

Course management is huge in this game, if you leave a ball above the with the green sloping away from you, there is no chance to stop the ball near the hole, especially if you are in the rough or bunker.

As for the graphics I don't personally feel they are bad, they are more than serviceable... just different.

I have issues with 2K23... but my two main ones are the swing speed, and the dead zone when you are trying to feather a delicate putt. Other than that I can live with other shortcomings of that game.

EA has many issues as well, but overall I enjoy the gameplay. My main issues with EA are... they over did some of the dispersion zones for shot types. And the swing mechanics are not sensitive enough making for the game to be far too easy.

You should be rewarded and punished based off your shot execution... not some random dispersion.
