Struggling to understand the ball physics in this game

Played last night for the first time in about 3 weeks with some friends on-line.

Was playing the Wetlands course (selected it because it was not a course any of us were familiar with).

I don't remember the hole... but I was a pitching wedge distance out under benign wind conditons to a pin sloping pretty severely away from me. The ball landed 10 feet past the hole and spun 30 feet back uphill. Leaving me a 20 foot downhill putt.

I thought what the heck? Until one of my playing partners spun his back even further.

I expect the ball to actually kick forward and check at best leaving me an uphill putt.

Especially since a few holes earlier I hit the same shot to a green sloping towards me where the ball settled and dribble only a few feet back to the pin.

The ball physics can seem pretty inconsistent at times... including some invisible breaks on putts.

@PalomaMarvel24  I have a good moan about the poor quality greens at Evian, but I don't go out of my way to avoid it, because as you rightly say, once you do focus on the power game there, it becomes much more accessible overall.

@Noya_Wesa I have faith that you can probably navigate W*** C**** without too much issue. It's been awhile since I have played it but from what I remember there are plenty of scoreable holes.

The test is getting through the other holes... meaning you don't aways need to aim at the pin. Even the pros don't do that.

Though if you are playing 3-click on the fast settings... that is pretty difficult. When I tested it, there seemed to be a lag between pressing a button and when it triggered on the meter.

I have more feel for the game using the stick for my swing.

@ELF014  Yeah, I can manage to get around it, even with most of the assists turned off if I put my mind to it. It just feels like a lot of effort though. I'd prefer to go play St Andrew's in high wind conditions, than play WC on a calm day. 🙂

3 click on the PC is pretty much on the money timings wise, I will grant them that.

I thought you people at EA fixed this caca!! This ball started on the left rim of the cup and went all the way AROUND THE RIM to rest miraculously on the rim in an act of gravitational defiance never before seen!!

What should've been a birdie now is going to be a par!!

Looks like Kylo Ren has used his force freeze on the ball. This issue has been in the game since the Notorious Update 3. It’s bad that this is still an issue.

After the ball going around the rim is weird, but I saw it before. I got my ball hanging at the edge of the hole a few times when I play real golf, with part of the ball hanging over the hole. And I also saw it many times with pros, just waiting there as long as they could hoping the ball finally fall in the hole.

Edit: There is one and he was given a stroke penalty because he waited too long to tap the ball in the hole.

  • Yeah, I think there's a reason this game doesn't have replays.  They would make it much more apparent there is something amiss with the physics.  Youtube would be awash with examples of janky shots.  7 irons into a green sloping towards me, flag 1/3 on.  Hit it on the front third, it rolls 21 yards up the green and another 10 yards off the back. Duh?  I wonder if early internal testing of this game found it was too easy and folks were shooting -14 around Augusta first time out.  Certain aspects of it are over-powered, so to redress the balance they've 'massaged' the physics a little to make it so any 7 iron or lower simply won't stop.  And yes, I've played it long enough to raise my stats. and acces all the shot types...it still happens.  It just feels a bit off somewhere in the mechanics.

The net is awash with examples recorded using the pc or consoles recording facility.

Not to mention EA's community manager, shortly after launch, just telling people to use the clipping feature on their console/PC.

The lack of replay feature isn't an elaborate cover-up, it's just a low priority feature request because people already have a way of saving replays (albeit limited).
