The reason why EA Abandoned the PC gaming 15 years ago and consoles 10 years ago

CHEATERS.    It has nothing to do with the game being too arcadish like the extremely small group of regulars left on this forum,  and what EA wants you to believe are saying.  It was CHEATERS.  Back in the tw08 days we coined the term "Edgers"  to label a cheat who was either using mouse drivers locking the axis,  or hard edges on the mouse or joystick to ensure straight swings.  Its simply very easy to cheat in a golf game and no way for the game to detect it.

In 2008 EA claimed it was hackers pirating their games that was costing sales causing them to abandon the pc.  They been complaining about that since 2005.  People use to burn games even for consoles.    But the truth was most people bought their game to play online in with friends and family or to meet people in community clubs and tournaments, etc..   And you couldn't do that with a pirated game.   But starting in 2005 cheating started becoming a major problem and eventually the game became a ghost town just like this one by 2008.   Well not as bad as this one, not even close,  but a dead pop by 2008 standards.

These are the same reasons many of us are now going back to 2k23 or like me buying it for the first time.   And let me tell you,  its an amazing experience compared to this game.  Its what i've always wanted in an online golf game and I'm least thankful for ea pushing me to 2k23.  It has an actual mmr and ranking system with crossplay for all control types.   And I get instalty matched with a palyer of my level for a competitive matchup,  almost all the time.  I'm loving it.

But I originally thought ok maybe ea is trying to make every game mode  a hard simulation because they are just listening the wrong people.   But now I'm thinking those wrong people are EA themselves after they just locked another thread asking for turn based multiplayer options,  and people in there started gathering to call the fact out development is making everything a similuation mode,  which agian 99% of players don't want was was evident on this forum many months ago.   Now only the sim people are left, and its literally just a dozen of them!  lol

Why did EA ignore 99% of the community that was asking for turn based multiplayer since launch,  for literally months and months on end?   Not even acknowledging this request while addressing others?  Because of everything I've said above which,  understandably,  they still hold resentments over.

TW 13, TW 14 and EA Rory were not released on PC, probably because of poor sales of TW 12. Even this game, Steam is showing only 35,000 sales. Not much a return for investment there, not worth the hassle. If EA makes another game, I will be very surprised they will make a PC version.

TW12?  Never even heard of it.  wow.  Only one i Heard of them doing for PC since tw08 was the browser based version,  and it was horrible.  I don't remember what it was called i think tiger woods onlin?     I mean it was so bad I never even played it, I think i was only part of the beta.   EA TIM was a community mod back then,  and Like Elf was steering development into the ground.  Eventually that guy got me banned from EA's whole platform because I would debate him on the forums.    I have a feeling they will take the PC servers down for this game and honestly they should refund us some of the obscene $80 they charged for a bare bones game they obviously had no intention of developing.   This game at least has the graphics and physics from the real franchise,  but its literally missing everything else lol.  It was a cash grab only and probably cost them very little to develop. The crappy browser based version years ago proably cost them more lol.

@RichACEA did not abandoned PC golf in 2008 your math is flawed. I thought my last EA golf PC game was 2015. Some body correct me if I'm wrong?

absolutely they did bud.  Why don't you try your hardest to debate me and explain exactly why my math is flawed?   lol

Let me give you some more history.  The writing was actually on the wall in 2005 when EA Sports sold their sole rights to MLB and the two companies that bought them,  2k being one of them,  didn't even make pc versions.  The two baseball games that came out after that were console only,  and I knew then and there that pc gaming was on its way out.     By 2008 it wasn't just golf,  EA sports stopped developing all their sports games for the pc literally except soccer I think lol.  2005 coincidentally is the year that mass cheating really started to slowly take over online gaming.   But by 2008 it was so bad there was no denying it was killing off games.   EA literally blamed it on piracy,  but we knew the real reason players were no longer buying pc games.  Same reason why in almost 50 games so far on 2k23 I just bought,  i've only seen one other pc player lol.  ANd I bet when those guys see the steam symbol next to my name, their heart probably sinks assuming i'm a cheater.
