Solved

will there be dynamic weather in the game?

I am wondering if there will be weather in the game. Weather is one of the most important factors when playing 'real' golf and it certainly impacts on your shot decisions.

The difference between playing St Andrews Old Course in a gale with driving rain as opposed to a sunny July afternoon where there would be lots of run - a truly different world.

I hope upon hope that a form of weather (hopefully a live weather toggle) will be available in game.

The interview linked below included the following question and answer which conclusively rules out weather being a feature, at least at launch. (DB = Lead Producer David Baker.)

OS: Is progressive lighting included? What about various types of weather conditions that affect course conditions?

DB: We have 3 times of day for each course to be played. Morning, Mid-Day and Late Afternoon. Weather conditions are not a part of launch. So it will not affect gameplay.

So essentially it's the 360 era all over again weather wise until it comes post launch. No night golf like in 14?

Honestly night golf sounds like a gimmick that I wouldn't personally use, but weather effects would be good.

Depends if lighting * up the green to make putts unreadable. I know 05 had that problem. 14 less so but still noticable for me.

  • I can't believe we have no dynamic lighting or weather

That is really disappointing for an exclusively next-generation, all new title

  • Rain i don't want no stinking rain (sounds like taxi driver) But seriously rain would drag down the frames per second.

@SlimDown57 That would be scary to add rain given that RNG is an X-Factor. If wind and rain effects are present, the ball physics might be like Super Girl flying through the heavy snow in a Buffalo Bills Home Game.

I remember Tiger Woods 14 had the option to use real-time weather in it.  I played the 2015 The Open Championship on the same day and I remember it was so windy in real life they postponed Sunday's round until Monday that year.  The wind was so brutal on the game that the front 9 at St. Andrews was silly easy and the back was even sillier but so difficult to get the ball to even move forward.  EA even had real-time weather available on NCAA 14, their last game of that series.  I think it was also available on some other versions of NCAA, but all you guys are right, weather matters.  Look at the final round of this year's Open.  It rained throughout.  We play in sunshine and only the wind changes from day to day in the tournaments

  • I hope EA adds dynamic weather to the next year's release. At least I hope there will be a release next year.

Starting the round out in sunny windy weather with rain coming in the later holes would be amazing. If you could have the announces mention that rain is expected and will have an affect on green speed.

    That would be great!

    Thanks!
