5k coins for 3 different plants each day in the store is a staple thing, but I find that buying pinatas with 100 gems is more decent for me. So now i am just saving coins to upgrade plants. For someone like me, who have kind of OCD issue, I have to upgrade every plant. But if i didn't have this issue, i guess i will only upgrade plants that i use XD
I stopped at L7 for certain plants, including gravebuster, hot potato, em peach, stunnion and perfume-shroom.
You never know when a plant will come in useful, i remember a tournament a long time ago when the entire lawn was covered with tombstones so you had to use it, caught a lot of players out and EA were selling gravebuster seeds for gems at extortionate prices.
