I. Can’t seem to get the kills in eight seconds for some reason videos I’ve seen him don’t really show any reliable method that I can discern.

My strat is to plant spikeweed as much as I can on the lawn, especially on the left side of the lawn or where Imps from Imp Canons are predicted to land.
Then, resist killing the Imp Canons so that they throw a bunch of Imps on the planted Spikeweed. Careful of planting cherry bombs too close to Imp Canons so as not to destroy them before the kill count is fulfilled.
This can be tricky since you'll also need to take care of the other zombies than imps, which may not be easily killed using spikeweed only. And you'd want to use cherry bomb to add to the quick kill number.
If using this strat, you'll need to adjust when to kill using spikeweed and cherry bomb.
If I remember correctly, for me, I use plantfood on corn to stop a wave of zombies then waited for more zombies to come out and then dumped a cherry bomb at the area with the most zombies...
Plant Food to refresh Cherry Bomb or the cheat version: Cherry Bomb + launching a lawn mower can help.
This can be done with level 1 plants.

About halfway through you might have to use plantfood on iceberg lettuce a couple of times to let another wave advance.
The later zombies can take more damage so if you freeze them your kernal pults won't kill them too quickly then cherry bomb and refresh it with plantfood for another group.
You might have to buy a couple of plantfoods.
