Has anyone managed to recover their lost progress on iOS using the EA article?

UGH.  Lost all progress of years of daily play (over 30 plants in Mastery, many purchased plants, etc.) back in December.  It took the EA Help center 3 WEEKS to recover it.  Then again with the latest update, all my progress lost again.  I've submitted my case to the help center again, but now there doesn't seem to be a chat option (which I had to use to nag them into fixing my issue last time).

So, my question is has anyone successfully recovered their lost progress due to update on iOS?  If so, can you walk us through exactly what you did?  The article addressing this in the help center doesn't seem to be of help
