Update: My profile has been restored (again). Here is what tech support shared with me:

I have run your Player Id number through our profile restoration tool and your profile "David1" was restored.

Due to the nature how PvZ2 is saved any sudden disruption can cause a profile loss. Here are a few tips to try and prevent this from occurring in the future.

1. Always ensure you are playing on a strong and reliable network connection, personally I only play PvZ2 on wi-fi.
2. Try and limit the number of extra applications running co-currently with PvZ2, PvZ2 is a memory intensive game and if your device runs out of RAM it could cause a crash.
3. Make sure your device is well charged or plugged in, any sudden shut down can cause in a profile disappearance.
4. Finally, backing out of the World Map menu to the main menu and closing the game can also prevent this issue.

The same happened with me. But it's curious that when I open google play games, all my progress related to the game is there: my level, scores and achievements. The game is already synced to my google account but when I open it I have nothing. ☹️

That is my exact same issue too. I reached out to the Support in the game and all of a sudden all my profiles showed up in the game even though I did nothing but it was fixed. I found the right profile and deleted the useless ones. I played for a couple days, then one day I came to play and that profile was gone. I've uninstalled/re-installed game, cleared history, and tried restarted phone, nothing works. I've contacted Support again and this time they haven't responded after many days - last time it was a 2 day turnaround. I've spent over $100 and had about $600k in game money over 1.5 years and completed all levels after restarting the game once before. I think I'm done.

I've been playing on quite a few systems but for past 1-2 years I've been on Android. I've made small plant purchases many times (I have all plants except the snow plant). Well I had been saving up my gems for probably 6 months to get enough for the new plants I knew would be coming out. I had around 270 gems and then finally we could order the lava plant. I purchased it for 129 gems and that brought me down to around 160 or so (I also won a few more gems from playing the party). Last night I played for a minute and went to sleep. When I woke up I had only 24 gems left!!!! WTH!
I will say I have had PLENTY of times where I wake up and have 0 coins but I didn't complain-not once. But gems is ridiculous and honestly that just makes me VERY happy I never used $ to buy gems. I had my phone with me the entire time so no one else could have used the gems, besides that is a LOT to use geeze!!

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling, changing p/w on google +, restarting the phone, etc. Nothing worked. Their website looks like it's for children and there is NO where to 'contact us' or put in a ticket, etc. Had I known you all would have wiped them I would have rather had used them.
Maybe it's just a sign to stop playing this game. It just seems so silly for myself and my children to play a game that gets wiped out randomly.

  Strange, i claim about 25 free gems per day for watching ads and i have all the gemium plants and they all cost 100 gems each (including lava guava).
  You can contact EA HELP CENTER. by tapping on EA HELP CENTER at the bottom of this page and sending them an email. (With your player i.d. number).
  They are paid to sort out issues by paying customers.
  I live in the uk🇬🇧 so maybe there is a regional price difference?
  If players with issues put flag emojis on their posts then regional issues might be easier to spot.

IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY MADE A NOTE OF YOUR PLAYER I.D. NUMBER DO IT ASAP OR TAKE A SCREENSHOT OF IT.
If you have your player i.d. number then EA HELP CENTER (below) can restore your profile from their backup servers.
(Android and apple🍎).
This should be able to restore virtually everything except for your battlez league status and your streak.
I have a Google play pvz2 account that i set up and if i reinstall the game WITHOUT putting in a player name when prompted then it will find my profile automatically.
Reinstall,
tap on Google sign in prompt,
tap on my email address when it pops up then leave it to find your profile.
