New snEAky streakbreaker tactics??
I had a strategy that was working pretty well, with scores ranging from 2.9m to a high of 4.1m. (Lvl 10 Toadstool - Lvl 10 Caulipower - Lvl 9 Moonflower - Lvl 9 Dusklobber - Lvl 7 Chard Guard - Lvl 10 Goldbloom)
I then saw a strategy online that was getting around the 6 to 7 million mark. (Toadstool - Double Caulipower - Bowling Bulb - Potato Mine - Goldbloom, all of which were at max level.)
My Bowling Bulb is still at only level 7 but the rest are at max, so I decided to try it out. My first attempt scored just over 5 million. I then played a further 5 matches with scores ranging from 4.4 to 4.8 million.
I then played another match. (For the conspiracy theorists it was for some Mints.) I scored only 2.4 million. Same plants, same initial set up, same build process. I barely won against an opponent with plants at far lower levels who most people would say shouldn't have got even close to me.
I tried another match with the same setup. My score dropped even further!! I got just over 1.9 million. I won, but only by the skin of my teeth.
There was a common theme In both of those two matches - hardly any Zombies in the first 30 seconds.
In the second of those two matches there was something else - or rather there wasn't. As well as there being only a few Zombies in the first 30 seconds, there were hardly any sun carrying tombstones popping up throughout the match. As my only sun plant was the Goldbloom I was being starved of sun. Had it not been for me having the Toadstool to give a trickle of extra sun I wouldn't have been able to continue building and been left almost totally reliant on my existing Caulipowers to carry me through.
I then reverted to my original line up. Lo and behold I scored 4.1 million! AND I had lots of Zombies and Tombstones. I also beat an all max plant opponent.
I'm now of the opinion that an EA algorithm is actively analysing our plant load outs. If we do really well for a few consecutive matches with the same plants it puts us up against a 'questionable' opponent and/or restricts the supply of Zombies and/or tombstones.
It has to be more than just coincidence that my score jumped back up when I changed my load out, OR that the number of Zombies and Tombstones returned to a more normal level.
In future I'll have a couple of effective load outs that I rotate every few matches.
