If you see your original player name instead of User Dave and the resources had been reset, this does suggest some kind of data corruption occurred during the update. Please note down or screenshot your player ID if you have not yet done so as this is an important information required for the advisor to work on your account.
May I ask have you registered your email address with the game to get a reward of free gems before the reset? IF so, you might want to try re-installing your game and go through the register again with the same email address and see if there is a choice for you to recover your old progress. If not, I am sorry to confirm only the help advisor can assist you in getting your old progress restored from the backup server.
EDIT. Out of interest, what device and OS version are you using?
