I solved my problem.
So there was an update in the App Store but it was not showing meaning when I searched for Plants vs Zombies2 it would show it and the only option was "Open".
But only when I clicked on the app in the store it would go to the app homepage and now it showed there was an "update".
In the past it would already show an update when searching the app in the app store but apparently you now have to go the the application homepage which probably triggers a check if there is an update available. That's not so clever from Apple or whoever decided to implement it this way,,,, My 2 cents but lessons learned.
Now the application is working like it should. No more crashes etc.. and I could unlock Blaze Leave without crashing to ios desktop.
PS: I have never lost my progress but I registered my email with EA and that seems to work in regards to backups.
I just updated the game and my account and game progress are gone! ! !

Every time a major update comes, I lose progress. Unbelievable.
The button which lets you choose your account/id is not there.

Same here - lost progress AGAIN and no option to choose the correct account. Last time it took me three weeks to get it restored. Beyond ridiculous
