PVZ2 keeps stopping to show "Restoring Purchases!"

After buying the Parsnip, Sweet Potato, and Caulipower bundle for PVZ2 a bit before Thanksgiving, the app began cycling between a pop-up that says, "Purchase Successful! This item has been purchased before. Restore Purchases will allow you to claim all of your past purchases in any profile." Then, a "Restoring Purchases! Successfully restored 0 purchases!" (yes, zero), and sometimes also just "Restoring Purchases!" with the animated flowers and petals, which just keeps animating forever. When the animated flower comes up, the only option to resume game play is to kill the app and restart it. I've attached screen captures of the messages.

I did submit this to EA Help, who suggested I do the following, all of which I've done, plus terminating both the app and Google Play (in case this was a Play store issue with the purchase) and restarting my phone after performing these steps. Here's what they suggested and my responses:

-Make sure your device is up-to-date

DONE (via Settings -> System Updates: shows System Update 9 installed on Nov 2).

-Make sure your app is up-to-date

DONE (via Google Play)

-Restart the app Close background apps

DONE

-Powercycle your phone

DONE

-Clear your cache to check if you're synced properly

Done (via Settings -> Apps -> Plants vs. Zombies 2 -> Clear Cache)

After all of these I have also done the Force Stop on both Plants vs Zombies 2 and on the Google Play app. Then, I restarted the phone. After all of this, there has been no change to the problem.

After that exchange where I told them I had done everything they suggested, EA has never responded to me again. Has anyone else had a similar problem? If so, were you able to fix? Should I just demand a refund? I'd rather get it working, but if we can't fix it, I'll settle for getting my money back and just stop playing PVZ2.

An immortal bug that plagues just about everyone. An extreme menace that softlocks the game at will. I am affected by it badly. I hate it. I've been dealing with it for months. It only got worse recently when I bought the Sweet Potato bundle. I've actually readjusted my pattern of behavior in the game to avoid it as much as possible.

I can't understand why this blasted problem hasn't been fixed. I'm truly sick of it, but I will keep tolerating it for the sake of spending time with my beloved Plants...

    Solution:

    1. Start the game with Internet turned OFF

Important thing is to turn the Internet off BEFORE you click on the game icon

    2. Once in the game, your Arena and Penny should be phased off, inaccessible

    3. Enter the Store, Store should be working without internet. Exit store. You should be seeing Adventure, Penny and Arena icons

    4. Thus, while in the game, enable Internet. Enter the Store again. It should be up to date and working

However, upon entering the Store once while Internet is on, the next time I return to it it gets locked again by Restoring Purchases again.

So I must go thru the cycle I described above in order to access it again.

    Hope it helps.

Yes, this is what I need to do too. One minor change that can save a step: if you restore the Internet connection while you're in the Store, the Store will become accessible within a few seconds. No need to leave the store and come back. So total steps for me:

    1. Be sure PVZ2 is not runninng (close it if it is)

    2. Turn off Internet (I do this by turning on airplane mode)

    3. Start PVZ2

    4. Go to the Store

    5. Turn Internet back on (I turn off airplane mode)

    6. Wait a few seconds and Store will start working (once you leave the store, you may or may not be able to get back in if you try immediately, but after several minutes, you definitely can't get back in)

Often (not sure if this always works), you can also do this, which is ever faster and doesn't require disabling the Internet:

    1. Be sure PVZ2 is not runninng (close it if it is)

    2. Start PVZ2 with Internet access on

    3. BEFORE hitting Play to get into the game, hit the ad button for the featured plant that takes you directly to the store. As long as you haven't yet gotten into the game, the Store is usually working

@GranitStateColin Yeah, thanks, nice find mate 🙂. That second way sure is even faster.
Important thing is that we figured the way to get it work, without Store game is sorely missing a lot.
  • This is my workaround, hope it can help you.

    1. Quit the PVZ2 game.

    2. Switch off wifi and data on the phone.

    3. Start PVZ2 game. Go to the "sale" cart at top right corner.

    4. You will find that "Adventure" tab cannot be shown.

    5. Switch on wifi and data on the phone.

    6. Wait a short while and you will find that "Adventure" tab can now be shown.

This is not a permanent solution, but an approach that I took to get past the bug to get to my game.

  • I had that happen to me multiple times after I purchased the Shadow Peashooter bundle.  I was able to get in contact with support to get my plants after a week or two of giving them the information they wanted and giving them the same information.  However, I still have the same "Purchase Successful!" pop-up when I do anything and it's really annoying.  I sent them multiple support tickets about this bug, but I never had a reply back from them.  When I logged in to check my ticket, it said it was deleted and that annoys me even more.  The only thing that seems to do anything for a little bit was deleting the game and reinstalling it.  I tried turning off the Wi-Fi method and that doesn't work either.

  • OK I had this issue for ages and tried loads of stuff.

-First of all, you can enter the shop and skip the restoring animation if you click the add after clicking play.

    Or

-Close the app, turn off your internet, open the app, open the store, turn internet on.

To fix it I synced player data on the EA servers. and signed in with google play. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, signing in with google play. I went to the shop and had to click on the purchased item which makes it realise it needs to restore, then clicked on that and any other restore options. And bam, fixed.

I have a feeling sometimes the fix doesn't work, thats why this post exists. So maybe retry uninstalling again.

I can state that in my case, the problem is something attached to my account. Even changing to a new phone with a different version of Android didn't have any effect. As soon as it sync'd my account, the problem returned. Perhaps for some, this problem is fixable with uninstalling and reinstalling, so worth a shot, but that's definitely not a universal solution.

Fortunately, the work-around of putting it in airplane mode at start or just going straight to the PVZ Store through the ad links when the game starts are pretty easy to do (anyone looking for these steps, see my detailed post above), so I live with the problem.

  • This did happen to me i cleared cache  and updated google play (probably) then restarted the app and close backround apps and it was fixed this only happens to me when i try to load adventure mode or shop
