Not sure, I am hoping the new plants are to be made available the same way as the last 'free' plant, shadow peashooter, this is done by obtaining the seed packets from various quests.
EDIT: I have just updated my PVZ2 to version 7.0.1 and it shows that the new plant is indeed to be available to unlock with seed packets. (starts on November 13)

In adventure mode you have 8 slots and in battlez you can pick 5 and you already have dozens to choose from

I've not yet seen it as I'm holding off updating for a while but it will probably be available to try out through the quest log with a levelled up version.

This is for players who want it now, the event is to be starting next Tuesday where seed packets are given out after comppletion of quests.
Guess it is more like a Dusk Lobber in a pea shape, Like most players, I do not need it but do want to collect a level 1 plant for sure.
Same here. Try it out and try to collect it.
Having been demoted to Soil league is going to make that much more challenging.
IF what I have been told is true, the Soil League should be an easier place to build up your winning streak ready for next week's event.
Update: I have just learned @MAGICDAVESHROOM is now joining the Soil League....
