In the old shop the price for Pinata wasn't 10 gems - it was 25 gems. So buying the Pinata 10 times is actually cheaper now. In the old shop it was 250 gems in the new shop it is 235 gems. So now you save 15 gems.
However, if you want to buy more than 10 Pinatas it gets very expensive.

Will redo the chart this evening and see how they compare.
If you remember ye goode olde days of the old streak system every time you lost, the price of retaining your streak was an extra 10 gems added each time and was eventually capped at 250.
This meant you either were a brilliant player that never lost, didn't get very far, had to buy gems from the store or work around the problem.
If i recall correctly this meant that to retain your streak (with it's lovely up to 10x multiplyer) could cost up to 3,000 gems to retain your streak.
Thereafter 250 gems per loss.
I suspect the same zombie nibbled brainz are behind this.

Revised table with the correct 25 gems per seed package with the old system as pointed out by @PowerToss .
So it seems that if we are buying 11x, then it is even, from then on the increase is quite steep.
@eieio_31310This is just too ridiculous,they really need to increase the amount of gems in daily quests and Arena leagues if they want to do it..
@HenryThePear It is ridiculous, I've heard of players who got m200 level plants by buying seeds for gems, probably from the resources doubling bug.

I don't like the new system, if a plant is good i would like to upgrade it.
I liked explode 0 vine and got all the seeds from arena to take it to level 4 then spent over 2,000 gems to take him to level 7 (in 3 profiles).
@Abhay_ZombieWolF Shadow peashooter seeds might be available through pinata party, penny's pursuit and streak rewards and it usually takes 250 seeds just to unlock.
