Sooo Tiger Grass is indeed a grass tiger?

So I just had a debate with someone who argued that Tiger Grass was designed base on the tiger grass aka thysanolaena - a thin, bamboo-like tree while when looking at it we can easily tell that was made based on the snake plant (dracaena trifasciata) also called 虎尾兰 (hǔwěilán) in Chinese, which translates to "Tiger Tail Orchid". I argued that the name Tiger Grass wasn't direct to the actual tiger grass but just to tell that the plant is in fact a grass tiger. Can anyone confirm that the plant have nothing to do with the tiger grass...?
