Similar issue had been reported a few weeks ago and I thought it was fixed.
There has been a post saying by re-installing the game clears the problem

A little warning: Before deleting the game to do a re-install, please make sure you note down your player ID and if you have not registered your email to get 100 free gems, this is also the time to do so as it provides and an easy recovery method.
But is says ‘’failed to register. try again later’’ do you know what i should do?
There is not much you can do except wait and try again at a later time as suggested.
I get that sometimes when I am traveling, might be there is an internet connection issue or the local server you have connected is busy and not taking up more registrations requests.
Ok thanks for the help i realy appriciate it
I loaded PZ2 onto another device. I then proceeded to sync to server. It told me there were multiple IDs and gave me the option of which one to pick. I selected the ID associated with the game I could not get to download (JSON) error. It loaded my old game with all my current settings, I then went to iPod an uninstalled my PZ2 and reinstalled. I then went in and synched the game and again it told me there were multiple games associated with my account. I selected the User ID associated with my original game. This fixed my problem. Only took 3 weeks to figure it out. EA help couldn’t help.

It is NOT fixed. It is November and I am having the same issue. I registered my email on both devices. I uninstalled and reinstalled on both devices and I am still getting the same "Download Failed, Unexpected content from server (got JSON). I got the conflict messages and verified both profiles. So how long do we all have to wait until it gets fixed? Are we supposed to know how to fix the issue ourselves? Because I have tried everything that people have suggested and it doesn't work. The confidence level in EA resolving the issues seems to be very low according to other users who have posted here. I have been playing this game for years and never had this bad of an issue. So I hope they are planning a new update?
- @XKS711Z same! I just got this issue after reinstalled the game. I have tried everything I could but nothing works. And we can't even email EA

@ti19196 Good News! Up until very late last night I was getting the "Unexpected content from server (got JSON). I did send them an email. I reported it here as a technical issue and sent an email to EA and this morning both devices downloaded a new update. So try and email them from here and see if it gets resolved. I put the error code in the title of the email. Also, as was previously stated in another message, make sure you register your email with EA to get the 200 gems. I hope you get your game back. Too many years to start from the beginning again.
What I did was I just started a new account (bye-bye two years of progress), but after rebooting the game, it still showed the message.

You should not be forced to lose all that history, only to be back at the same place, with no resolution, ARGH!!!! I was not willing to lose my progress of years. Too much to get back.
Does anyone know what the cause of this particular mess or is that just a redundant question? It is too wide spread to just be a few random user issues.
EA, C'mon, man....Please get this fixed!!!
