Dark spots wither regular plants?

I notice how in the Sewer levels, the regular plants are fine in the dark tiles which I feel makes the mushrooms feel kind of redundant beyond the weakness the factor. I think if the dark tiles had the same affect on regular plants like the mushrooms in the light, it would encourage more players to use mushrooms. I also feel that the lawn needs more to be more dark in general with few light titles.
