Freeze not applied

In plants vs zombie heroes, Unthawed viking when played on spikeweed sector without pirate evolution didn't apply freeze. According to its description, it should freeze all plants in its lane even without pirate evolution. I was playing as super brainz against spudow. It was zombie turn (not the trick turn).
