Indeed, grinding is ridiculous, at least sometimes. I think it took me over 32 million coins to get all possible characters from the sticker packs... and that was before the last update or the packages for the infinity characters.. Now over 52 mil spend and still missing 6 characters. But those will come eventually. Just stay positive =)
The random award system is by far the most frustrating part of the game for many players- you have some people who quickly collect every single character and others who are consistently snubbed by the way the system works. The system retains no memory of what you have or have not received or how much you've spent and it doesn't add any bias at all to help you obtain character pieces if you haven't received any for a long while. I think this was part of the reason that Rux was introduced, so that you could have a chance of directly buying something that you've been waiting and waiting for from a Sticker Pack.
Get in the queue, I'm about 50M in and still missing a few legendary stickers. Save for Rux and be sure to participate in community challenge, those are two fairly reliable sources for legendary stickers.
Also, if you're a completionist, then I recommend coughing up for the festive upgrade and getting those two FF legendary characters out of the way. The drop rate for necrose and captain squack is not too bad, but pretty terrible for commando corn and scallywag, and 50K for a FF pack is a lot.
Only 26 million? Okey, thats quite a lot of coins, but I spend more then twice as much and I still miss items. On of my friends spend 75 million he has everything except the CP-Items. With an average of 3 portals and 1 Rux per month it will take you 18 months to get 400 CP-Items, thats the number I need, I dont know how many CPs you have, but I can tell you there will NEVER be someone with a 100% stickerbook. Why? Because its called Plants vs Zombies Grinding Warfare 2! Oh wait GW stands for Garden Warfare?? Sorry I misunderstood this!
No one will get everything because of:
- Unicorn Chomper -> biggest reason only GW1 level 313 players could get everything and there will hopefully never be a way to get this character
- CP-Items -> Of course, you have to play EVERY portal round and get every Rux Item, all the time, even with this it will take 18-24 months, you cant get CP items with coins (yet)
- Rux special abilities and items -> yes, there are Rux only items and they cost up to 500k - 1 million coins, I dont know how many reskin specials there are but its easily...OVER 9000!!!
- Infinity Items -> when you dont want to waste 1000 of stars and hours of your life in Cats and Dinos vs Gnomes, you have to buy infinity packs, who are only available once in a month, 200k
per pack and only 3 reskins
- you have to get 75 million coins, to get the stuff right now in the game, when another DLC comes (I hope so 🤔) then it can go up to 100 million
- Specialitems: Heroitems (there are still hero items not in the game right now), event items or just something like christmas items are only available once in a year and xtremly rare
That are reasons no one has a full stickerbook right now or even in 1 year, when nothing changes! But theres one main reason that it will never happen:
The game gets BORING, it is how it is. To get coins and levels everyone is grinding XP, to get the promotions (20k each). At one point you have already seen everything, done everything, killed everything, and you know everything/everyone but then, you will reach level 5400+. And with this you lose interest, my teamplayers/friends lost interest and I also lost interest. I havent even played one time this week, all I do is write comments like these in the forums or youtube, to hear what other high level players think about that and most of them feel the same. 3 months ago, I also thought: "The hell is this grind, it never ends". Now I realized, that without playing any character for days and farming coins, stars over and over again, this game would be always the same. Im a big fan of GOPS and that is probably the only thing I do these days, but its also pretty lame in the end. Multiplayer? - what should I say, I stopped when they buffed capnt canon and electro pea the second time. On PC: 90% of the attacking team is holding back and/or hiding and sniping from the last edge. Plants are still too strong, spam abilities all the time, no ones capturing the garden and besides GOPS, Turf is the only mode on PC that is played. In almost 1000 hours of gameplay I can tell that it will end most likely on the second or third garden and defenders will win 99%, all of the games. Now the question is not: How many coins do I have to spend? but: When will the next big DLC come out?🤔²
I prefer to consider TT and ops to be the way to earn coins, the 20K from leveling up on the way is a bonus.
Just consider how long it takes to earn 20K from playing vs. how long it takes to rank a character up a whole prestige.
Turf Takeover is my go-to for Character Leveling because most games run through several of the capture points so the game lasts longer and you have a chance for a decently large number of vanquishes which are worth 200XP each, plus all the supplemental XP you can earn with assists and so on. It also usually provides a decent number of coins depending on your own performance.
Garden and Graveyard Ops are my go to when I want to earn coins more than I want XP because the AI opponents aren't worth much when vanquished so leveling up can take much longer.
Right now I have every character, and my Sticker Book still has roughly 2000 items left to go but I'm not aggressively buying Packs for items and since I'm focused on leveling up I'm skipping the Cats vs Dinos events since they don't contribute to that at all.
I was reminded how awful the legendary grind was when the frontline fighters pack released. I managed to get the Imp and only one piece of the commando corn after spending 4mil coins that i had saved up but getting the last piece for the corn was just a awful grind. It took me at least another 3mil to even get him while most people were very lucky and got him early spending about the same amount of coins i did. I just stopped buying frontline fighters packs completely once i finally got the last piece. The pack itself is too expensive and it's doing the really unnecessary thing with giving me only 1-2 cosmetic pieces even though i am still missing a ton of them from the pack.
When and if they ever release a legendary sunflower, that will be the last time i ever grind for a legendary character if they haven't changed how legendary drops work by then
@superxmario128 I've got to agree with you completely. I could tell that the FF pack was a bum deal. I decided grinding for the last three existing legendaries I don't yet have was enough, and coughed up for the festive upgrade. Commando corn was worth it. Once I get the last sticker each for comp scientist, iron citron and toxic brainz, I'm done unless a sunflower comes out. I'll live without the party characters since I hate playing infinity time, the infinity packs are also a bum deal, and I know the characters are not all that great.
What is killing me even more is that I've done the grind already for the PC version. My son just got a PS4 for Christmas and now we have to do it all over again??? Why! Come on ☹️. We did the work, spent a lot of coins. Why couldn't they just transfer that progress when we did the character import. If they can transfer the GW1 PC version info, they could have done an update to transfer GW2 info, no? Speaking of updates, did they change the drop rate for the zany zombopolis pack? When I opened those packs on the PC, I was able to get legendaries much quicker than I'm getting on the PS4.
