@Iron_Guard8Early gw2 had its problems but it was still such a fun time exploring the new maps and all the new content of the pve hub.
The biggest improvement over gw1 by far was the addition of pve as now you could explore your own little world and experience multiplayer with bot allies/enemies of your choosing (I didn't have Xbox live until after spooky squash so I spent all that time playing solo matches).
There was also the new mode and setting of herbal assualt which finally put plants on the offensive. Graveyard ops allowed the zombie defense to shine. The plants now had an offensive army and zombies got a defensive one that thankfully do not play 100% identically to their counterpart. There were also all the new bosses and minions to the series.
All the new classes took some getting used to but they were all fun and helped compliment their respective teams without feeling like they stepping on each other toes too much.
I think gw was ahead of the curve as it came out during the gray ultra edgy era of shooters arguably started by the rise of call of duty that finally died down in the end of 2015 when that series declined. Gw did its stylized and colorful cartoony style far before Overwatch or paladins looked back at tf2 and saw that it was a potential goldmine genre. Even gw2 got out before overwatch was really getting close to completion.
The only thing I have to complain about is popcap's handling of gw2 at the end of its life. The lackluster job done on walnut hills and the mystery portal having over 3/4 of its modes being cut out with no chance of return is sad.
I really hope that if we ever get a new shooter it builds upon gw2 by expanding on the content and ideas provided by it. Easily my favorite pvz alongside the original.
Happy 6th Birthday, Garden Warfare 2! 🥳🙂😇
A bit of history on my experience of GW2, if anyone is interested: I knew about Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 1 and 2, even before I started playing it. I was not too interested back in the day, although I did play the original Plants vs Zombies. After a while, Garden Warfare 2 came out, but we never bought the game until nearly Christmas in 2017. I decided it to give it a try, although it was hard to get used to the game at first. It was not the game's fault, but mine. I was not used to playing shooter games and was not really interested in the past, but once I started to level up along with earning coins and upgrades, I started to well, get hooked in, you know! This game definetly changed my take in shooters, and the Plants vs Zombies franchise as a whole. As I continued to play this game and Battle for Neighborville over the years, and until this present day, I enjoyed the game even more. I was a bit late to the shooter franchise party overall, but once I "caught up", I never have regretted playing this game at all!
Garden Warfare 2 has given me lots of cool memories, an example is as follows: I was Captain Squawk, and I found 2 Cactus players in their drone, unsuspecting of my presence. I enter barrel mode, ready to detonate them, and then suddenly they are immediately kicked out of their drones and know that I am right there. I was confused, why did they suddenly start taking damage and was aware of my presence when I had not damaged them yet? The toxic aura, dang it, if I was any other Captain Deadbeard, that would not have been a problem!
Again, Happy Birthday Garden Warfare 2! The game has been great fun, and recently I decided to properly return to the game and level up my main account, to try and head to max rank, as I never managed that. I am just over rank 3000 currently. My brother has started playing the game again, and one of his friends purchased the game about a week ago because it was free on Xbox Game Pass, so I've been having fun playing with my brother and his friends, sometimes including his friends that has already owned the game.
I can tell but not officially confirm that Garden Warfare 2 added so much more that the original Garden Warfare game did not have. The content and replayability of the game is really great, although I do wish that the events were not discontinued, especially in the Town Hall. Boss Hunts were my favourite mode of all time, something I would always be excited and prepared for weeks before, and I would do nearly anything for them to return.
Garden Warfare 2, you are a great game! I hope that in the future, we will have a new shooter or we will continue to get updates!
