Ability discussion: barrel blast
Barrel blast
Barrel blast-default (gw2 and bfn)
Gw2 description: Hop inside your trusty barrel to shield yourself from attacks, but that's not all! Light the fuse and run towards your Plant foes an explosive surprise.
Bfn description:
Hide in a short-fused powder keg. Light fuse with [?]
.
Captain Deadbeard hides in a wooden barrel with a fuse on it. He triggers the fuse which leads to the explosion of the barrel after a certain amount of time indicated by a visual dynamite stick fuse. While in the barrel, deadbeard will move slower than usual, but after he triggers the fuse, he moves faster. The explosion does up to 150 splash damage to the plants. The player also takes 75% less damage while in the barrel. 20 second cooldown. The duration is determined by how much deadbeard moves while on a timer much like burrow that goes down quicker when moving.
In bfn the barrel only lasts 15 seconds and has a 15 second cooldown. The barrel can take 100 damage before breaking and has no resistance, it can also still be destroyed while beginning to count down, removing the option to detonate it if done quickly enough. In addition, if a plant aims for the eye hole in the barrel, they can damage the captain normally though the eye hole which is miniscule.
Has a looty booty barrel blast variant in gw2.
Gw2 description: Yo ho ho, it's a barrel made of shiny treasure! Protect yourself from plants in style, and blast them away with a glittery explosion!
Has 2 upgrades.
Powder keg:
Captain Deadbeard gets launched higher from Barrel Blast.
Barrel Blast launches Captain Deadbeard 11.5m (37.73 ft) upward
.
Incoming keg:
Move faster while in Barrel Blast.
Move 40.3509% faster while in Barrel Blast.
I really don't understand this ability in bfn. The barrel being destroyable removes a lot of its effectiveness as it can be destroyed even when its lit. Chomper can also swallow deadbeard within the barrel so he's an easy counter. The damage radius is also really inconsistent.
The powder keg upgrade feels really redundant. I see many deadbeards in gw2 use the barrel blast as an actual technique to reach the high ground, especially on the moon. But why would you use this in a game where anchors away exists and you have the jump height of a kangaroo in bfn?
