Ability discussion: gravity grenade and impkata

Gravity grenade and impkata.

Gravity grenade-default (gw2 and bfn)

Gw2 description:

Utilizing crazy future technology, the Gravity Grenade sucks Plants towards its epicenter while lifting them off the ground!

Bfn description:

Pull and hold enemies in a location.

Gw2: Imp will throw an orange grenade thst looks exactly like it does on the icon grenade which creates a gravitational field that pulls all nearby plants and holds them in mid-air for 2.5 seconds. When they are trapped in the Gravity Grenade, they can't move nor can they use their abilities but they cna still shoot back. It creates a blue circle that can be seen in full if it doesn't hit the ground. Has a 50 second cooldown.

Bfn: it creates a blue sphere with a miniature black hole inside. Lasts 3 seconds with a 16 second. Its much smaller now and plants can use abilities in it.

Has 1 upgrade. Supermassive:

Increased size of Gravity Grenade.

Impkata-default (gw2 and bfn).

Gw2 description:

It's time to set your butt boosters to overdrive as you spin uncontrollably with both Imp Blasters blazing.

Imp uses his butt boosters to spin around rapidly in mid-air and damages plants using his Imp Blaster. The effect uses 100 ammunition. While Impkata is being used, he takes around 20% less damage, however he has reduced speed while using it. It takes 35 seconds in Garden Warfare 2 and 20 seconds in Bfn. In gw2 he is on his back twirling around while his bfn version sits up halfway through. The gw2 version does 2 damage at range and 3 up close per shot. In bfn it only does 1 damage before racking up to 3 and has a visible radius.

Gravity grenade in bfn is just bad. It's too small without supermassive and since plants can use their abilities they can easily escape or just blast imp the moment he tries to take advantage as he has to get close to make his blasters work in bfn.

Impkata was just ok in gw2 and got momentary buffs with imps like scallywag due to his speed under yo ho ho mode. Bfn's version is terrible though. You have to wait for it to rack up before it can deal any real damage, imp is loud as heck, and he shows the effective radius that plants can just sprint away from now. Did the developers even factor in sprint with this ability.

I wish imp also had more alts as gravity grenade and impkata lack synergy together.

  • Gravity Grenade went from OP in GW2 to borderline garbage in BfN. For some reason, after a patch, they gave gravity grenade's ability to pull plants in to Nightcap's casting shadows so it's far, far better than the Imp ability as its huge and blocks zombie's vision. If we get both abilities in a new game they need to be better balanced against each other an in each character's kit. I'd say for gravity grenade to make it smaller than in GW2, but actually useful against the plants like it was there too. I get that it was too good in GW2, but the BfN version is awful.

Impkata is an ability where the idea behind it and animation is great, but the actual ability isn't a favorite. It bugs out in the backyard near the flag of power a lot, causing no damage at all at times. In BfN, like you post, it takes a while to kick into full gear. I had read that zooming in while using it causes more damage? No idea if that's true. Like turret modes, it makes you vulnerable, even with armor, and while you can move some, it limits mobility a lot, and for a character with such low health, that's not a favorite idea. Another ability that needs to be looked at for a new game to make it work when used, and not be too good, or too poor.

@Iron_Guard8Slightly reducing the size of gw2's gravity grenade but keeping everything else from gw2 would be the best version as the size in bfn is just pathetic even with supermassive and plants being able to use their abilities in it is just broken. I was gonna mention on nightcap that casting shadows is way too good for what it does.

Impkata in gw2 is wierd. If you double tap the button it will cancel out. It's best used on the legendary imps as their speed boosts in legendary mode carry over to impkata which imo would be the perfect buff alongside removing sprint from the series. The aiming thing in bfn wouldn't surprise me at this point. Like you say it's a great a idea but it's one that needs to be refined in the future.
