Ability discussion: pea gatling and retro gatling

Pea gatling and retro gatling.

Pea gatling-default (gw&bfn)

Gw description:

Peashooter can dig into the ground and root himself in place, turning himself into a Pea Gatling. He can deal more damage, but is vulnerable to attack.

Bfn description:

Switch to a high powered turret in a rooted position.

Peashooter equips a helmet with goggles while bamboo stalks wrapped togetger extend out of his mouth and plants into the ground as a military esque jingle plays (only in the gw games). He can now shoot 100 tiny peas extremely fast. He gets 20% damage resistance in gw1, 40% in gw2, and none in bfn. 45 second cooldown in gw1 but 30 seconds in gw2. Will not enter cooldown if not fired. In bfn the cooldown is relevant to the amount of peas fired similar to the sunbeam. Peas deal 8-10 damage in gw1 but 10-12 damage in gw2.

Has two upgrades. Reload gatling:

Gain ammo when dealing critical damage with Pea Gatling.

Gain 25 ammo after 5 critical hits.

Explosive gatling:

Enemies explode when vanquished by Pea Gatling.

Explosion stats: Blast damage = 40, Inner blast radius = 4.74999m, Blast radius = 4.75m, Shockwave damage = 10, Shockwave radius = 5m.

Retro gatling-super rare

Gw description:

Retro Pea Gatling uses the ancient Peashooter techniques of manually cranking out peas. Although it has a slower rate of fire, the peas are ancient and far more damaging

.

Peashooter summons another gatling form but with a different barrel resembling an actual gatling gun and a helmet that slightly resembles a German Pickelhaube. It takes 30 seconds to recharge and deals each pea deals 8 to 12 impact damage and 9 to 14 critical damage but only has 50 ammo. Due to the slower fire rate retro is more reliable at range. It also has less muzzle flash.

Has a bling variation in gw2.

Zpg is the main counter to this powerful turret as you will be one shotted regardless of resistance.

Concept art of the gatling showed multiple images like one of a peashooter with TEETH and one with a mouth below the gatling nose with a CIGAR. I really would've loved to see wth gw would've been if they went the ultra edgy route they thought of beforehand.

Pea gatling is a fine ability in all 3 games. It deals damage relatively fast enough to eliminate multiple threats or melt down high target ones. The buffs in gw2 make sense due to the conclusion of the various z mechs and their armor. In bfn the resistance was taken away which makes it easier to eliminate. Not a fan of the new sound design for it in bfn though.

I want to love retro gatling. The sound design and look is great but it's overall usefulness isnt great due to less ammo and the slower fire rate. Peashooter also doesn't turn the crank with his leafy hand 0/10.

  • I too want to love retro Gatling but I stopped using it after seeing that it's just not as good as the regular one.

I don't use it all that often in multiplayer as I don't like being a sitting duck, even with the armor upgrade in GW2, but it can certainly be effective, and Gatling campers are one reason why Time Park is such a bad map for multiplayer most of the time. Taking them out with a ZPG is so satisfying though.

In BfN, that reload Gatling ability can take down a boss singlehandedly if you don't get knocked out of the mode; just aim for the head and crit away and keep getting ammo to crit more for more ammo, it's pretty sick.

@Iron_Guard8 I always fear that I'm gonna get zpged every time I use it. Rock pea can actually survive a zpg in gw2 at full health when rooted and that suprises a lot of soldiers.
