I have been playing a bunch of Garden and Graveyard Ops lately in Crazy Difficulty, Solo Ops and with friends! From what I have noticed, Sunflowers and Scientists are especially tough to deal with, along with Chompers and Super Brainz. I find the heroes do target players over your garden or tombstone, unless all players are vanquished. For some reason though, Sunflowers and Scientists do actually attack your garden or tombstone frequently - I am unsure if this is an intentional feature or if it is a bug since no other heroes tend to pioritise attacking your defenses over other players. The Goop on Chompers is a major threat and it makes sense they are unable to swallow players for obvious reasons, although Super Brainz probably should not be able to use Turbo Twister in Ops as it does almost no damage, therefore you can either move away or deal significant damage to him before he is able to deal any major damage to you.
In some cases, character variants will appear in special challenge waves or on random waves. On Crazy Difficulty, Garden Ops always contain 3 Electricians on Wave 2, a variant of Foot Soldier and 2 of a particular variant of Super Brainz always appear on Wave 5, and Wave 10 often contains different variants. Graveyard Ops always contain up to 2 different variants of Peashooter and Cactus on Wave 1, a Chomper variant on Wave 5, and different variants of Kernel Corn on Wave 9.
Having the different plant and zombie variants in Ops is a great touch to Ops, although the Toxic Brainz that occassionally appear in Garden Ops can actually charge their meter by punching you and other plants enough, which is generally deadly for your team.
The variants are spaces depending on difficulty as they hardly show up on easy but in crazy youll have electro peas and toxic brainz take the place of their counterparts. Imp variants hardly ever use mech s from what ive seen.
Gw1 used them a lot to make up wave variety like the dino king which was a champion paleontologist with fire variants or all wrestling stars with exploding fans Imps.
Lack of variants definetly made bfn ops a lot more bland since you never really have to strategize in dealing with the more difficult one like toxic brainz.

Even without variants, BfN Ops could be so much better than they are. One of PvZ's strengths is the amazing variety of plants and zombies, as even just cosmetic changes (like the pirate themed summonables in GW), just show that extra little attention to detail that made the GW games stand out in a rather bland multiplayer shooter landscape (with some notable exceptions like Paladins and TF2) that we've dealt with for years now. It was so disappointing to lack Karate zombies for the Zen Sensei zombie, the vampire zombies for Baron Von Bats and so on. GW2 took away the cool intro scenes GW has for the super waves, but BfN took even more away, and is a large part of why it never felt as good as the GW games; it lacked that special spark that made the other games stand out among the crowd.

We have the model for browncoat and a flag from heal zombie but you mean to tell me they couldnt even add flag zombie as a support character in a game supposedly about teamwork, but hey, they remembered to copy and paste tv head for the 50th time this wave and make them playable classes.
And some of them are just weird choices like zombies get yeti imp while plants only have dandelion despite the fact that exploding imp is IN THE GAME and would be more fair.
Lets create a new unique imp enemy for the pve who will never be used in the game again.
Giga Torchwood's model is straight from gw2 yet they couldnt bring over any other character and had to redesign everyone else? Seriously why is doom shroom purple again?- Iron_Guard83 years agoLegend
And I really despise the TV Heads and WIldflowers for so many reasons. While I feel a lot of the new characters need some serious tuning and changes to be brought to a new shooter that I still want to see, their overall concepts are at least fun and interesting, but not those two. They make PvE less fun than it should be and them being made playable was a terrible idea as they are obnoxious to play against, they lack cosmetics, and they feel so bland compared to the rest of the roster; they're just filler and it shows.
