It would be equally unfair to folks who earned the character to just hand out the max-rank rewards to folks who aren't willing to put in the effort to earn them.
I am willing to put in the effort to earn the Unicorn Chomper but how can I put any effort if the first game is dead + there is a time limit.
so if I will go and try play in the first game it will just be a waste of time since no one plays and a better option is to let players put their efforts in the second game.
how often do you see someone playing as the unicorn chomper? me i see one about 1 out of 40 games i play. Thats how horrible the unicorn chomper is. If the unicorn chomper was a good character then more people would choose him.

Is GW1 dead? I don't play it often, but when I do I always find a full team for garden ops.

even when the first game was active people actually played Gardens&Graveyard(more coins and still enjoyable), it was mostly the only mode people played in the game and very rarely other modes.
