@ShinobicapI love when people taunt-emote and end up getting killed. Karma baby 🙂 I myself only emote players who are idling in ops and arnt helping. Had a hard elite boss round yesterday, me and my friend, a rookie player and a idling super brainz, I was quite annoyed with the last guy.
It’s always funny when someone’s fishing for emotes and they die to a stray ZPG or bean bomb or something. I don’t know why, but a ton of high rank players love to just spam “poop” and “terrible!” on the boast podium, which is really annoying. I’m also a high rank player so whenever I get on the boast podium I always try to say “Nice!” And “Not too shabby!” so that i’m not being condescending towards other players, because I know how toxic and annoying that gets. Some people have nothing better to do than bully kids on this game and make fun of them, which is just sad for them.
- 6 years ago@SockReverie I never have.. though I do tend to see black player rank badges typically being the cancer cells in online games. Toxic doesn’t do it justice, these guys will grow and spread and eat this game alive. I actually have stopped my kids (who actually stopped on there own) from playing until EA gets their collective acts together. All the hate in this world and these guys want to add to it with insults instead of actually being clever and witty. If I had to guess, I would imagine most of the developers and those with any say in this game are under the age of 30. Popcap who had a fantastic book series should be ashamed that children’s books are tied to this toxic environment. If they want the junk to stay in the game, change the games rating so that kids aren’t exposed to the hate. It drives me crazy when I hear people swearing on mics in game and then I hear a kid no older that 4 or 5 respond. Bullying in online has become far to popular and games like this encourage the behavior.
It’s more than the kids that play this game that have some growing up to do.- 6 years ago
@GraveledStoopid Well said.
- 6 years agoI think this sort of toxic behaviour has been increasing steadily & it's put me off PvP, to be honest. I play to have fun - not to come out of a game feeling frustrated / exasperated / angry.
Chat can be disgusting but at least you can mute players, or switch it off. The fact is though, that many are simply using the pics & speech to deliberately upset, goad or enrage players, knowing that it's unlikely any action would be taken against them because they're using in-game communication features.
The last BFN survey had a number of questions about toxicity, so I suspect PopCap are aware there are issues. I know things are extremely difficult everywhere at the moment, but hope it's something they intend addressing somehow.- 6 years ago
I think that, as far as when emotes can be considered harassment, a lack of forethought has placed a number of emotes into the game which hardly have any other purpose than to be offensive. I'm certain that the design team thought that they had simply made cute or funny choices in what to include, or at the very least that they had simply picked out selections which matched the current theme of the Prize Map but unfortunately it doesn't seem that any more thought or consideration was put into them beyond that so now the "poop" emote is the standard insult to be hurled or paired with other expressions to form insults or derogatory statements.
On a broader sense though, if we set aside emotes which automatically have negative associations, anything at all can be considered harassment if you have the right mindset, including the most innocent of expressions, so it can be really subjective. For example, if someone runs a vanquish streak on a player, like 0-9, and emotes the happy face every time somebody out there is going to feel targeted and label that as some sort of sarcastic harassment.
Having said that though I do think that there are emotes which were added which were phenomenally poor decisions on the part of the design team considering that they were being introduced into a competitive game environment, which is remarkably different from using emotes on your phone.
