You have to explore and clear rubble around your base and other locations in your backyard to use them.. Some are specific to the docks rubble where you can place a large decoration
when you open those chests you also get towers how do you use those ?

I cleared the rubble but got resetted the next day? have to spend 3 stars to clear it again ☹️

I cleared all the rubble during the trial game but since the preorder has kicked in I too have had the same problem - apart from one statue which has survived the mystery reset.
Also, whilst on the subject of the backyard, does anyone know how that leaderboard in the leaf HQ actually works ?
I can access it and view the global rankings but the filter option for "friends" remains blank.

I had the same issue. It's a bug apparently. I wouldn't waste stars on it until they fix it.
